Remedy has released a new patch for the registered version of Max Payne - v1.02. This is a small update to the game, it fixes this, according to their notes:

The clock and other desktop icons are no longer randomly flashing during the game.

This patch also includes all the fixes that were in v1.01 of the patch. Those fixes included:

Exit to desktop stability issues addressed: The issues with the game crashing to Windows desktop when loading a new map have been addressed. Game doesn't start with some CD-ROM drives: A newer version of Safedisc copy protection is now in use.

If you have the registered CD, and have not patched your game, using this patch will give you all of the 1.01 fixes, as well as the 1.02 fix. If you continue to run into trouble, please visit the Max Payne Support center (http://www.maxpayne.com/support/index.html), as virtually all of the game's problems can be fixed by following the instructions there. There is also information there on what to do if you cannot fix your problem with what is listed there. Also, don't forget the Max Payne forums (http://forums.3drealms.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?category=7), they too can help.

You can download the patch from 3D Realms directly by using this link (ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/patches/maxpayne1-02patch.exe). Here are some other alternate download locations:

"This is a small update to the game, it fixes this, according to their notes:

6.1Mb is not a small update, for a problem that can be easily fixed by right clicking on the taskbar and turning auto hide on or alway on top off. What about a fix for the safedisc problems? The random crashing to the desktop forcing people to reduce or turn off the hardware acceleration for the sound card?

As has been said in the update, the bulk of these things can be fixed with what's in the support area linked to - and if it doesn't it tells you where to send info to if it doesn't.

It didn't fix the problem. I still get flashing taskbar icons on screen while the games loading. The patch made it worse. It used to do it in moderation, but Now it's constant.

Ha Ha Ha.

Remedy sux! No I'm joking.

They still need to work on that problem. Any res higher than 720X480 gives me the flashing taskbar of annoyance.

Patches are supposed to fix or improve certain issues as far as i know, however your game is so buggy and problematic that a new patch should be an another cd. Other companies make add on cds to the games, why dont you release a new game named "MAX Payne 2 Patched and Working version" or maybe you will release a faq cd, so you can make more money. Some users may think that the game is working fine on their pcs so the game has no problems but many people are experiencing problems while they dont have any problems with other games. I dont care if i can play the game or not but i do care about my 50 $, i know there is a slow motion move called bullet time in the game, bullshit time is more suitable i think.

If i wanted to donate 50$, it wouldnt be remedy who get the money. You can add a word to the game titles, for example max payne the thief looks fine, so ppl can know it is a remedy game.

I'll d/L it later when the connection speed here picks back up to T1 or T3 speeds...dang thing takes forever to load anything!

Besides, as of right now, the system that I have MP on has a very low graphics card...I don't even get color on the walls images/icons/shocked.gif

I hope that I don't have too much trouble w/MP when I uninstall it from this system and put in on my OWN system. Gotta SB Live! X-Gamer 5.1 and an Abit mobo w/VIA chipset...more driver installation for me, i reckon.
