Any Savage fans around? S2 is making Heroes of Newerth. It's like Defense of the Ancients or Demigod, set in the Savage universe.

PROS :
--Excellent performance/netcode.
--It's Demigod with Warcraft 3 graphics.
--Addictive. Tons of powerups, items and recipies.
--Moves, sounds and feels like a pro mod. No cheap stuff here. It's worth your time.
--More than 15 Heroes. A bajillion spells and abilities = you're bound to find a Hero that suits you.
CONS :
--More than 15 Heroes. A bajillion spells and abilities = some are awesome, some suck. Big balance problems.
--Maps are huge = games drag on forever. After 2 hours of play, it was still a tug-o-war battle for control of the middle. At least Demigod's maps are small. I quit out of boredom from not gaining any ground after 120 minutes.
--Legion of Man is weak, Hellbourne are retardedly overpowered. Gee, who could have predicted this from the Savage developers?

no clue.
I have the first 2 games, but I lost interest, because none of my pals got it.

The Savage concept is flawed. In multiplayer games, a sucky team means you have a horrible time. In Savage, a single person -- the commander -- can make everyone's lives miserable. That's worse than a bad team.
Wishing no offense to the devs, I'm glad to see they're burying those games and leveraging their lore and engine into something worthwile.

I personally liked the first game, but i just couldn't get enough pals to play with me on a server.
The commander could be voted out, but sadly the required amount was too high and if only 2 or 3 voted it usually wasn't enough.

Get on the HoN beta then. ;) No Commander, all action.
I still play Savage on occasion. At least once a week or so lately. I'm in one of the oldest clans in the game. Clan is called Cure. I'm not an administrator, so I wouldn't be able to invite anyone, but I do know some people who are admins.
Savage is free now, so you can just download and play it if you want to.

Note that this game doesn't have anything to do with Savage except the universe. The game mechanics and map are 100% equal to the popular Warcraft 3 map DotA, and so are the items. Some heroes are a little different, but the majority is identical.
Also note that saying that the Hellbourne are more powerful than the Legion is meaningless since in any real game the "All Heroes" option will be enabled, allowing people to pick heroes from both affiliations. There are also no major balance problems; not sure where you're getting that from. Every hero has pro and cons, some are really effective in the midgame while other rule in the endgame. Some are only support heroes and disablers while other are pure gankers. Of course you'll need to play them differently.
Short version: it's _exactly_ like DotA (not just the big lines like demigod, league of legends) with a newer engine allowing for ingame rejoining and fancier graphics. The interface is also fully designed with DotA in mind and there's an integrated banlist, voicechat, vote system for concede/remake/pause, etc.

LOL. Give it a week and yeah, pretty much.
I just installed it. Got my beta key a few weeks ago. I am totally lost how to play. I was just looking at the items and I wasn't even sure which ones to pick. Then I heard that something was under attack.
Again, I tried Warcraft 3 and wasn't very good at it. This probably won't be my kind of game if that's true.
Actually after hosting a private game against myself and the computer, I was able to get a handle on how the game plays. All I did was buy 20 health pots at the beginning of the game and off I went. Won a few games. It looks like a fun game after all.
