The minimum specs for Max Payne are quoted as 450Mhz CPU, 96Mb RAM, and a 16Mb D3D Graphics card, and I've read many stories of the game running fine on systems not much better than this. I have an AMD K6/2 500, 160MB RAM and a VooDoo5 64Mb PCI card. Max Payne runs rather slow, and seems to randomly crash as well. It only runs at an acceptable rate when I'm in a VERY simple room with no enemies.

Nothing in the FAQ helps. I'm running it at 640x480x16, with all the graphical settings at low. Please help.

heheheh ... easy problem to fix images/icons/smile.gif
first make sure u got the lastest drivers for ur video card ..
make sure all the visual stuff like lvl of geometery is low ..
and try shut down all programs... press ctrl+alt+delete and itll bring up a window .. close all the programs .. careful not to restart the comp images/icons/smile.gif
and this should be enough to work .. hopefully ...goodluck!!!@@!!

I can't explain the random crashes, but your cpu is not powerfull enough me thinks, the k6/2 line of cpu's is not very good at 3D, and since your graphics card does not support hardware T&L, it does not make matters much better.

Mhz don't say everything, try running 3dmark2001, and see what that does, if it runs better than Max, maybe tou can tweak to get better results, if it runs like crap, your system is not powerfull enough.

i don't like the k6/2, I had a k6/2 400MHz and I had to be VERY careful with what ever I ran on it - anything that used openGL or Direct3D was a big no-go-area, so I changed to a duron 850 (running at 950-1000).
This is a very easy switch if you currently have an ATX motherboard as you would need to buy a new motherboard (that supports duron/athlon) and whatever speed processor you want. If you have an old AT size motherboard, you will probably need to get a new case also and transfer all the components (with the new m/b and chip) to the new case

Ok, fair enough... but the funny thing is, my mate has the exact same system as me, except with slightly more memory, but with an older video card (Riva TNT 16Mb PCI thingy), and yet it still works fine for him.

Oh well, thanks anyway. I fixed the crashes by getting DirectX 8.1, and managed to speed it up by (oddly) disabling the sound. I have an onboard soundcard... would a PCI one speed things up?

The new creative Audigy cards should use a lot less cpu time than most cards, could be that your cpu does most of the work in your case, so it might help, but I don't know for sure.

mine runs awesome on my 532mhz intel celeron,256mbram,32mb video card,and a equel 3d marks 2001 score of 1500 images/icons/smile.gif
and i run the game with high geometery, textures, and pretty much everything else expectthe sound channels and stuff dealing with sound ... images/icons/smile.gif

Those are the minimal specs. That does not mean that your system will run smooth as silk. The recommended specs are a 1Ghz machine.

It will run on what you have, but it will not run extremely fast. a 500Mhz machine is considered pretty slow today.

I think you need 900 points to be able to run Max at minimum settings and be able to enjoy it.

Could be some motherboard drivers, poor graphics card drivers, shitty HD and so on... try a defrag of your HD if you haven't... if not, post your full specs here... manufacturer and type of motherboard, cpu etc... need more details...

I'm gonna look around for better drivers and stuff tomorrow, and see if I can update any. Also I'm gonna defrag my harddrive.

Some more detailed system specs:

ECS P5SS-Me motherboard
AMD K6-2 3D-Now! 500Mhz CPU
Voodoo 5500 64Mb PCI 2d/3d card
Onboard CM8338 soundcard
Dunno about the harddrive... some crap 3gb thing.

Hi, I've got an ASUS mobo running an AMD K6 2 450 and I knew I was pushing my luck with MP , but I thought my new G force 2 MX 32 Mb (PCI) could handle it. Yet low and behold the mouse lag makes the game unplayable.... Yet Max runs around like he's had way too much coffee!! I'm gonna try good old W'95 and ditch 2K too see if that makes the difference... Maybe time to lose the K6 though.

Good Luck!

How come all you americans have those weird motherboards? Here most people have ASUS or Abit images/icons/smile.gif Well, can't help you much on that mobo I'm sorry to say...

I wonder, where the h*ll did yoy guys at Remedy got that 1Ghz? I can run MP at full graphic detail, with AA. NEVER get under 35fps.
My specs (old), 700@847Thunder(slot-a) Elsa GeForce2Ultra, 256Mt Ram.

The box says 700 as the recommended not 1000.

900 3dmarks for min settings. 2200 for med settings. My computer with 3000 runs the game perfectly in high detail.

An onboard sound card sucks. It uses the CPU, because it has no processor. It also uses system memory, because it has no memory of its know. Then the sound sucks. I got a Turtle beach sound card for $25.

No one can tell the difference in sound quality over the SB live card either.

PCI video cards are slower then AGP. Get an AGP card. AGP has many benefits over PCI.
