First of all, let me thank the guys who put a lot of time and effort into Max Payne. Despite the earlier bashings, I would just like you to know that your efforts are not unappreciated.

Just a friendly reminder to all you PC gamers and enthusiasts out there - we should be grateful to the developers and programmers who, despite bashings, despite piracy and despite low pay, still continue to make games for the PC.

Think about it. Most of these guys don't work because of the money. Its because they love to make games. Games that we, the gamers, would love to play.

Its really not their fault that sometimes, under marketing pressure, they release a game that has bugs. Let's face it, R&D on a game, or anything else for that matter, takes up a lot of time and money. Most of the time, the programmers and developers don't have the luxury of having both. Sometimes, they only get to have one of these. Sometimes, just a teeny-weeny amount of both. Of course, the less they have of these, the less quality you can expect out of the finished product.

Max Payne is obviously a revolutionary product. Its using a lot of features that are found in DirectX 8 (hence the requirement). It would have been different had they been using tried and tested technologies and engines. But these guys are obviously working with newer stuff, just to give us gamers newer eye-popping effects. You can't expect them to get things perfect the first time round.

Finally, as was previously mentioned, the PC is a far more difficult platform to make games on than say, a console. With a console, you're working with a standardized set of hardware. The PC, with its myriad hardware and software, basically has an infinite number of possible configurations. Can you honestly expect programmers and developers to test their product on even a quarter of this amount? Even without the time and money pressure, I doubt if they can even begin to scratch the surface.

What I'm trying to say is, hey, lets give these people a break! These guys are our HEROES for cryin' out loud! If they were in it for the money, then they would all probably be working on console games (not to put down console game developers though). These guys work, under pressure and with low pay, just to provide you with entertainment.

Yes, as consumers, we have a right to complain about a product. Hell, I'd curse and swear too if I get a lousy product. And yes, if nobody had the guts to complain then we'd all end up getting lousy products right? But lets be reasonable about it ok? Lets try to look at things from a greater perspective.

These guys give us the games, and we give them the dough to continue to provide us with the games. If one refuses to give the other what they need, then hell, we might as well just throw our PCs out the window.

Lets all be thankful that the industry is still alive as it is.

Sorry for the long post.

I agree with you, but they should fix it after the event, not provide shabby workarounds in an FAQ

Well, the fact that they're releasing patches means they're not just goofing around their office either.

Believe me, they're working on all your problems. Its just that they probably haven't found all the appropriate solutions yet. Remember - I N F I N I T E C O N F I G U R A T I O N S. Just have the patience to wait for the appropriate patch.

I know you've probably heard this before, but we are lucky that we even get patches. It gives developers the chance to really perfect their product. I'm sure that these guys don't like a buggy product any more than you do. Just give them time to iron out the kinks. They have enough pressure enough as it is without us gamers bashing them all the time.
