After two months of dissing and whinning about MP not working on my system (video=VooDoo 3 3K AGP)
finally got it to work last night. Upgraded DX to 8.1, go to www.voodoofiles.com (http://www.voodoofiles.com) make sure it's dated 9/30/01, I guess it just came out.
Anyway the game it freggin AWSOME!!!!
System is a Duron 750 w/ video overclocked to 185mhz, runs freggin smooth at 1280x1024 w/ setting med to high, highest level of filtering and triple buffers. Looks AMAZING, almost better
then a nice set of ** (almost). Too bad i had to come in to work today. anyway hope that helps other VooDoo 3 users having problems.

I'm running Payne on
Celeron 550
Voodoo4
192MB
Allegro
DirectX8
at
High detail
32 bit color
Anisotropic
to compensate for my CPU.
shadows:medium
geometry:medium
particles:medium
Basicly all CPU dependent effects are set to medium.
The Voodoo4 has some mad skills. I wonder how much better the V5 is?
I would be running it at 1280X1024,but because of the stupid taskbar bug I have to run it at 720X480

Two questions:
1. Have a VooDoo5 PCI card. I have an AMD K6/2 500 and 160 Mb RAM, but MP runs real slow, even on lowest detail and settings. Does MP not like PCI or something?
2. Where can I download DirectX 8.1?

My V4 is PCI. Sounds it doesn't like your CPU

Gatinater I think that taskbar thing was fixed in the last patch wasn't it?

No. I got the patch. The difference now is.Instead of 720x480 Being the highest res I can play it at without the bug,800X600 is highest res I can play it at without the bug. If I set the res at anything higher than 800X600 I see taskbar icons.

I keep getting the DirectX "Expired Beta" window every 15 seconds or so. What I saw looked REAL nice, though. I was getting some great framerates in Deus Ex on my Voodoo 3 (in Direct3D).
Keep a copy of DirectX Eradicator (http://www.geocities.com/firecat182/dxe108.zip) on hand if you need to go back to version 8.0 images/icons/wink.gif

Ok thanks, got it. It fixed the crashes. I also figured out what was causing poor performance - the sound. I disable it in the MP setup, and it works fine. Probably cos I have an onboard soundcard.
