couldn't find another thread on this, but I remember reading about it, somewhere. steam has this up for preorder, $26.99. it will either be really cool, or suck really bad. kind of sucks that it is coming in between a lot of other heavy games, and some of us are tapped out. :) anyway might be interesting to checkout.

That price is a little too steep for a gamble purchase. 15USD and they'd have a preorder.
Isn't this by the same developer that did Painkiller: Overdose?

Yep.
And without a demo or some incredibly solid feedback.. I'm not going anywhere near this.
Is this just painkiller with different content? No techincal upgrades? Couldn't see any normal maps.

PK:OD could have been good if they had used some normal play testers to adjust the balance and difficulty. that and drop the goofy weapons. so a question mark will be what engine are they using here. also interesting is that they have a steam achievement page, 1.4% have some of the hardest achievements, so that assumes at least 70 people have been playing the game, which IMO was way more than PK:OD. worth it? dunno, but i'll probably get it if it gets good reviews. I like games like this.

Oh wow, a female Painkiller.. very original. Just let me whip out my credit card
I'll be trying it out, hell, I bet I'll be the only one on earth who will like it, just like with Overdose.
Will there be a PC retail release of this by any chance?

I saw it just came available on Steam, has anyone had a go yet?

Demo.
I refuse to try it without a demo.

some of the intro videos looked good, but damn, tapped out for games (d2d stuff, risen, RF:G L4D2, PK:R, Borderlands...), not the best time to release it. they could have done a better job promoting it. although to be honest one of the videos I saw today looked really cool, but that does not necessarily make for a great game.

I thought the gameplay looked a bit... meh honestly. It looked very similar to Painkiller, but without the atmosphere or style.

I'd like to know this as well. I'm on the fence with this one, but if there's no PC retail release, it's a definite no for me.

I'm thinking STEAM only.
I've searched a few sites and the only thing I can find, retail wise, is the 360 version.

Yeah, that's all I've been able to find as well. Probably just as well - I think I needed a hindrance like that to knock some sense into me. :)

And yes, it is an exclusive STEAM release for PC (http://www.gamershell.com/companies/aspyr/659550.html). Just found the press release about it. Sucks in a way, but wasn't incredibly interested in the game.
Maybe if they released an awesome demo... or it goes up for sale for like five bucks. :p

I bought it on Steam and it's scheduled to be unlocked by the end of this month. I read somewhere that a PC retail release will follow later, would be great if it's true.
Okay so after 4 days of downloading (yay for my internet connection) I finally got it so here's why you mostly likely shouldn't bother with this game;
Pro;
- Wacky levels / monsters, since it's all about someone's crazy dream. Although you spend the entire first level blasting all kinds of spiders away. And nothing else but spiders.
- Unlimited ammo for weapons.
Cons;
- Teleport ability sucks.
- Berserker Rage (got in place of Demon Morph Mode) is worthless, you're not even invulnerable.
- Weapons are weak at first (need to be upgraded first by collecting the Golden dreamcatchers some enemies drop)
- You can only carry two weapons at the same time, the first can't be changed since the Dragon Grasp is some tattoo on Alice's arm. Very silly and it makes the battles even more linear.
- Very linear levels, no secret areas or whatsoever so far.
- No Black Tarot cards or something that replaces it.
This comes from someone who actually liked Painkiller Overdose.
Granted, I'm only at the third level so maybe things will get better later on.
Maybe.

Maybe.
Well, did things get better? :D
Anyway, Steam is gonna have it for this weekend for free. Time to check it out I guess... (and assuming it will not be only MP)

Wow... I get a really nostalgic "Quake-2ish" feel from those screens.
Now, if only they could give this the same kind of freak-out factor that I got when I first watched "The Cell." Pity this will probably be nothing more complex than a typical fragfest FPS.
Well, did things get better? :D
It's junk. Just a string of battle chambers with a bunch of watered down features of the original Painkiller, just as I explained above.
Mindware is from now on just a troll developer in my books.

I still don't get how you **** up a simple formula like painkiller.

lol, that was harsh! Well I will try it out this weekend and maybe get it when it falls under 5$... It must be 5$ worth!... no? :D

No People Can Fly ,No Buy.
No People Can Fly ,No Buy.
No real sequel to Painkiller, no buy.:dopefish: Damn it is it so hard to make get your ass making a sequel to a great and well selling (i think) game? Stop making these tiny third party hardly proffesional fake sequels.

Don't get how they can do this, but free Dreamkiller weekend on steam. I'll probably just go through the whole game this weekend.

Free weekend huh, I'll give it a try while it's free... but I'm not expecting much at all out of it.

Anybody want to tell me the point of giving people full access to a SP game for a whole weekend? I think creating a demo of the best level would be a much better idea. If I like the game, I will beat it this weekend and probably never touch it again unless it is absolutely fantastic. If they had a demo instead, that did a good job of presenting the game, I would buy it. Letting me have the full SP experience for a weekend just doesn't make sense from a financial point of view.
Jiminator

well, I think it is also a MP game. and if you can finish SP in a weekend, more power to you. but the game will probably be cheap, since you will already have the binaries, easier to justify purchasing.
Morbid
12-12-2009, 06:24 PM
well after playing a little of it I can agree... this game is total crap! :haha:
Played the first level and a little of the 2nd (you know, just to be a bit fair) but I couldn't continue... Damn, I wouldn't play this game even if I got paid to do... Uninstalled it and saved precious 10Gb of hdd space...
Damien_Azreal

Same.
But I couldn't even force myself through the first level. Just horrible... simply horrible. And the story, good god... what in the hell?

some people are of a mindset that just having tons of enemies makes for a good game. i mean it works for serious sam but there it seems like you had more flexibility of movement. this game is just wave after wave in the same space.

Heh...no matter why Steam is trying to get you to have it for free, at least that's my interpretation, saying that it's got it ready for installation for the weekend.
Then I guess I'll have to resist the temptation of installing the free copy from Steam, and tell them thanks, but no thanks.
Well, if it'll please Mindware, I'll do one or two levels, since it's a free game this weekend, but after that, it'll be off my SSD almost as fast as I installed it, basically.
Of course, since I have Steam on my SSD, that may be a big mistake, since Samsung controllers don't support TRIM. Uh-oh.
