I bought Max Payne te day it was released, and have been playnig it since then without any problems.

However, ever since I upgraded to the Det4 drivers (tried both 21.81 and 21.85) and updated my VIA drviers, I have been unable to play Max Payne. It freezes 1 second after I get to the loading screen. If I press F9 (quickload) fast enough, I can get a game to load. However, once it loads, it invariably locks-up within 30 seconds.

My system defintely can run Max Payne, since I have been running it for quite a while without problems. Is there some incompatibility with teh new VIA drivers or with the Det4 drivers?

In case anyone think my over-clocking is the problem, I've tried playing with that turned off. No difference. And I used to play with it on without problems.

Please help. Thanks.

My System:
PIII 1GHz
256M SDRAM
Creative GeForce2 GTS o/clocked at 220/370 (running Det4 21.85)
SB Live Value

Well you can downgrade your videodrivers, and see if that fixes the problem, lots of people complain about problems with the new Nvidia drivers.

Yeah, but it sounds silly to downgrade my drivers so I can run a game. What I was really wondering is if this freezing problem is defintely due to teh new drivers. Are other 21.8* driver users experiencing the same problems?

If so, I'd probably wait till Remedy releases a patch for the problem before playing Max Payne again. Looks like it's back to good old Team Fortress Classic again for me. images/icons/grin.gif

I solved my problem! I installed the Det4 21.83s, and Max Payne is working fine now. I have no idea why this would be the case, but it is.
