EA has officially announced the new Medal of Honor game for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

Simply called "Medal of Honor", the game is set in present-day Afghanistan and focuses on Tier 1 Operators - super army soldiers, in other words - who get involved in situations all around the world.

"The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience," EA said in a press release.

While EALA works to create a "best-in-class" single-player campaign, EA DICE will work on multiplayer.

"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war," said Greg Goodrich, executive producer.

"We are honoured to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."
The packshot shows a bearded, sunglasses-wearing Tier 1 Operator clutching a rifle. The colour scheme - white shifting to black - suggests EA is aiming for a similar shades-of-grey approach to its great rival, Call of Duty, which "went modern" just over two years ago.

The fact EA is targeting Medal of Honor for 2010 suggests that EA isn't leaving things to chance, mind you - following the release of Modern Warfare 2 last month, 2010 is an off year for Infinity Ward.

EA Games' vice president Nick Earl made headlines last month when his internal comments about the project leaked. He said it looked "simply stunning" in a mail to staff.

MW2's nosedive was just sad.

But MOH has been in the pits since Spearhead. It can only get better. Besides, EA has developed and produced some decent games lately.

I actually really enjoyed the last MoH game, Airborne. Felt it was a great addition to the series and was much, MUCH better than the previous installments (minus Allied Assault).

While the first two CoD games were better than the other MoH games at the time, recent CoD titles have lost their edge IMO and MoH delivered with it's last title.

I actually have faith in MoH to deliver a more solid and entertaining modern war experience than Infinity Ward did with MW2.
Specially since EA seems to be putting some actual effort into it's games lately.

Well I have a feeling the MoH game will have a SP campaign that's at least over 5 hours.. so that's a plus IMO.

Hell, Airborne's SP campaign, which was only 6 levels, was well over 5 hours. ;)

Exactly. It cannot be any worse than MW2 as far as linearity, monotonous battles, "twists" you saw coming a mile away, and an awful ending.

Hell, it could easily eclipse the entire MW series if they tried hard enough. I guess time will tell.

Good news. I've been a fan since the first MoH for Playstation. It'll be nice to see what EA comes up with.

Will it have dedicated servers and mod tools? :D
Seriously, I never cared much about MP until a friend dragged me into MW1 but a FPS for the PC nowadays not having any sort of mod tools just looks wrong...
BTW, I liked previous MoH games... :)

I have high expectations for this game.

As long as it has dedicated servers it'll smash MW2 :p

After much whining about the saturation of WW2 games in the market, developers have switched over to a modern setting, focused on the middle east. A shame, WW2 is my favorite human conflict to relive in games.

I'm guessing WW2 will be fresh again in a couple of years.

Damien_Azreal

Actually not many developers have really focused on the middle east. CoD4 and MW2 may have a few levels that take place there, but the main enemies and conflict in those games is Russia.

From the looks of the cover it look smore like MEDAL OF HOBO.

I hope it beats out MW2 though, I always prefered the MoH games.

As I recall a lot of the SEAL units and special ops in Afghanistan go unshaven to assist in their operations when they have to work with the various tribes.

Gotta say, he looks a LOT more badass than the Army of Two guys.

I love that you can preorder the game already. Honestly, who's going to do that with absolutely no information on the game other than it's name and setting?

Brand recognition/hype. You can be sure MW2, for example, got preorders before gameplay media was out. Though I'm not sure if MOH, as a series, deserves this kind of trust (anymore). Eh, it ain't my money.

I'm not preordering it, but i'll most likely end up getting it if comes out as promising as I think it will.

We're not allowed beards here. At all. Just mustache and that can't go past your mouth.

A family friend of ours, Racheal, works with a SEAL team as their tech advisor. But she had to go through the same training as the rest of the team.
She's come home to visit a few times... one time she'll look great, next visit... she'll look like hell. :p

Everyone gets trained the same way here as well. At least basic anyway. Our cooks get combat training xD

New trailer, from the VGA thread:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61598

Those animations look really good, I hope that isn't just the trailer stuff 'cause if the ingame animations are of that quality, this may set the bar for future games.

Is start to get a whole new feeling with EA titles. As in lately when i hear "EA" game i start to expect quality. Yet again i am impressed by what i see. Looks more prommissing then i had ever expected.

Tier One trailer. (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-tier-medal-of/63075)
A little more gameplay footage shown. This is definitely peaking my interest, especially because of how quickly I became sick of MW2.

Damien_Azreal
03-13-2010, 01:35 PM
I'm very interested in this. Considering EA are getting to focus only on the single player experience. And working with the Tier One guys and other branches of the armed forces, should be a solid ride.

---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:26 PM ----------

Oh yeah, I've read a lot of comments at various boards from people "hoping" this new MoH dethrones MW2 when it's released.
The problem is... MW2 didn't sell the tons of copies it did because of quality... but because of the name. It's Call of Duty. That's why it sold.
As much as I would love for MoH to get it's throne back... I doubt it will happen. No matter how good the game is.

This looks really badass. It looks to have a semi realistic story unlike both MW games and if they don't have infinite guys then I'll probably pick this up.

Regardless, I'm interested. The trailers honestly don't look that fantastic but it feels like a breath of fresh air to see a military shooter that isn't Call of Duty. Pretty sure it'll have somewhat similar gameplay though - not that this should be a bad thing, I just hope the SP campaign will be longer than just 3-4 hours :)

someguy2435
03-13-2010, 08:36 PM
I hope the singleplayer is at least 8 hours - I am quite sick of the whole 4 hour super-scripted FPS campaign that's been popular with CoD4/MW2. I also hope it doesn't do the "infinite spawning waves of enemy" crap CoD4 did, make the character lob grenades like he had no arm strength like in MW2, or have some super annoying MW2-styled blood splatter on your screen when you got hurt.

Why can't someone make a WWI game already? I'm tired of WWII and Modern Combat military shooters.

Apparently this is being developed on the PlayStation 3 first, then ported afterward to the PC/360. From what I gathered from EA it's going to be the beginning of a trend (for them at least, Square already did this with FFXIII) to get the most out of all systems. About damn time.
