As in a Sleep timer? I've been wondering whether such a simple function can be performed since XP, but I can't find a way to do it.

Type "sleep mode" at the Start menu. :)

you might try messing with powercfg command line and maybe scheduler. you should be able to enable a power scheme that has a 1 minute timeout. Then on wakeup run an autoexec to disable the power scheme.

Dunno if it works with 7, But I have used Wizmo (http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm) to put my computer to sleep(with the task scheduler), with past versions of windows.

That's a cool idea, thanks.

I'm wanting to set the PC to shut down after a movie or mp3 playlist ends, with the idea being that I don't have to get out of bed to do it myself (might be asleep, too). I don't know how well adjusting the power settings will work for this as they don't options for fine-tuning.
