Hello!

For some years ago i played Duke 3d and i loved it but there was one thing that i did not love and increasingly became more and more aware of and started to see that this was someting that held Duke3d back.

What i am talking about is that the first level and first chapter had the best music and best level of all the game but that is not all that is exactly what they had in their shareware game , also the other chapters had arguably good levels and musci but rest of the levels and score in all the chapters were just .. lets just say . use the words .. not AS GOOD.

How do i describe what i mean in words? does an idea of a scateboard park with random jumps and railings come to mind or a very unlogically decorated room containing akward placing of everything.
In one atempt of remaking dukenukem in a much more official outfitting and levels if i remmeber right " duke nukem platonium" but soon you stear head on into wierdness right away.

So what are you sayin DUKE ( i call myself also this) are you trying to say duke nukem devs suck ? or are you trying to say they are bad level makers ?

WHAT IAM SAYING is that Duke nukem is such a great project and such funn brainstorm and concept that it DESERVES LONG LEVELS it DESERVES REALISM and WELL PLACED ALIENS .. GREAT wepons and an unbelievable yet realistic plot which makes every fps lover grinn .

Have you ever played one of those games that were so so great in 2 3 4 levels and you wish you could play those few levels over and over just to get that awesome experince while rest of those games were just A BIG LET DOWN. .. didnt you wish you could just somehow extend those levels ?
that is how bad i had it with duke 3d i wished all levels were are great as LA. MELTDOWN and i wish ed they were longer.

AAAAAAAAAAND this goes on with shadow warrior as well where the FIRST LEVEL OF FIRST CHAPTER IS KIIIIIIIIICK.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
BTW why did people not recognize shadow warrior ? shadow warrior is underrated . I had so much more funn with shadow warrior but that was prob because it was a more complete game for the time and was more advanced.
(i belelieve shadow warrior was a project that was changed dramatically i still would love to play the original idea)


Atleast now i know 3D RELAMS seeemlingly i repeat seemingly used their god given time on this project i JUST HOPE SO MUCH! that EVERY LEVEL in this game will stand on a quality frequency

No it had the potencial needed but as I said i didnt see that most of the game.

Personally also i think it was a great invension to have voice of the character making him more alive but they didnt have so much original lines as it could have been. Some were funny and cool though.

I do not know what kind of coincidence caused them to find someone like ST John to do the voice and who came up with the awesome idea! I still miss ID softwares "HEAD CAM"! which i call it , I really think that helped immersion in the games of early days .

i am talking about real issues and my views and opinions on duke nukesm 3ds developement , regarding choise of level architecture and choise of level concepts.. they all seemed like small holywood setts not real big levels more like bits of peaces of wannabe alien or predator movies.

Atleast the psx games which were in 4rd person made it better with the levels in my opinion.

I am sorry i really ment 3rd person view not 4rd.

I have to correct you on that record ability did not exist prior ot xbox live " version" if you can call it that , you could record demos in duke 3d original as well. As far as i remmeber there were no problem loading or playing the game on the old computers back then either.
I did not expect a Total Conversion but atleast having some new chapters or something like that because then i would have a good reason to buy the game on arcade buti its hard to buy the game SAME GAME when you bought it before and finished it and loved it but thats it.

No matter what you say there is NO INSPIRATION to buy the same game just because it has an incorporated online gaming function as if we never had played the game on lans or internet before ... WE HAD.

To wrapp up this because i do not intend to sitt here and argue with people

after reading the Duke nukem 3d xbox live review on gamespot just to make sure i had thins right.
I decide to putt my verdict this way ::

If i was still 14 , 17 , 18 year s old and had not played this game too many times already as i have now i would have REALLY tought the arcade game would be one of THE BEST xbox arcade games. I WOULD also have really enjoyed the replay and the easier Coop modes .
TODAY however i think this is not what captivates my interest and still being as simple as it is i would have bought it if they had managed to add some more feutures or levels.

The best chance is that for new players and fans this is the perfect introduction and maybe 3d realms would come up with new things (dreaming ) for this or feuture arcade releases.

Regardless of what happened 3d realm still can come up with products that might be more suitable for craving players like me!

I want to say I share your love for dukenukem but all i am saying is that if they had taken the perfectness and had it done in most of the levels; moreover If they had done so for Duke nukem 3d xbox live "version" why would it have been a bad "POINT" or whatever if they had added more of the same greatness to the release as LIVE addition.

Even back in the days they made dukenukem atomic or platonium but it wasnot really a huge difference but atleast those had different chapters, agree?

I only played DN3D Atomic edition and it blew my socks off. I cannot comment on any other version. As far as I remember every level was totally awesome and lacked nothing.

So if you like to play duke nukem mostly for the two first levels then you can play them forfree in the demo , thanks to todays awesome demo leangths and options.

I played Duke Nukem Time to kill on PS1, then Total Meltdown ( I rented not bought the graphics made my eyes sore, maybe bad port sorry 3D Realms ) :D

With the HRP pack it looks better but looks too blocky, anyway what's is this thread about again Dukester3D.

The other thing is that if 3d realms had released duke 3d on xbox live which is fine and exciting on its own but it does not have the appeal to make gamers like me buy it since it does not have anything new to offer , not anything substatial atleast.
They could have atleast releaesd the atomic or platonic(actually called) version just to satisfy the fact that it has more levels and chapters.

I agree with you that the 3rd view duke nukem games were nice and that 3d realms had a chance this time to release duke nukem 3d in real upgraded 3d in such fashion done in high ress pack but they did not.
If i remmember right you could even choose highress in the normal duke 3d version, i might be wrong maybe its already on higress but it does not seem that its on highress setting on xbox live.

It is not toolate for 3d realms to satisfy our taste with duke 4 ever.

Heh. But in all honesty here, Duke3D was a fantastic game. I don't think many games of the time had amazing movie-like plots. Games have evolved and now you have in-depth plots tied into FPS gaming etc. I enjoy it.

From what I gather, he's been saying that Duke 3D on XBLA is a waste of time and money as it's just the same old game we all played and loved where as he knows it should have been so much better. Instead, it should have been the same as Duke 64 because it was a so much better and more impressive experience than the original... You know, despite how badly the N64 game was a censorsed and mutilated cut of the original.

After all, the climactic end fight with the Cycloid Emperor is so much more intense cos, ignore the rest of it, the boss has, omg, polygons!

Are you kidding? Duke 3D was the best thing that happened since sliced bread, well, not quite, but the Atomic Edition definitely made the game better yet... There's still people out there that're pumping life into the game almost 14 years after release. So, don't think that it could've been better. With people like The Commander, JonoF, TX, Plagman, and the rest, it's even better than it's been in...wow, can't remember how many of today's games would even come close. Modding this game certainly brought this game out of the grave, and back into a new cradle, basically.
