Will this game ever work with XP, or should I return it and get something worth while? It keeps saying that I should turn down the graphics, etc, but my computer runs 1.7 GHz Pent. 4, 512 megs ram, nvidia tnt2. I have installed directx like 4 times, so the only concievable problem is XP.

Hey! I also have Windows XP. You should download the Patch (ver. 1.02). That's what fixed my problem in Windows XP.

If that doesn't work. Try updating your drivers.

THe patch does jack for me, and I HIGHLY doubt it's the drivers. I just bought this damn computer a week ago, so the drivers are up to date. Windows XP sucks ass, and doesn't work with most of my other programs, so, yippie.

Agreed, XP sucks sometimes! But over all its great stability! etc. MICROSOFT NEEDS TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER!

Karakorum,

You have plenty cpu speed, but a really slow graphics card, so that can be a problem.

Remedy are however looking in to the xp problems some people are having, and might get a patch out correcting your troubles.

What do you mean a really slow graphics card? I was told that this thing would be top of the line.

Checking drivers should ALWAYS be the first thing you do. And just because you bought something does not mean that things are up to date. Most times the computer is built from a base model that is not always current.

It once was top of the line, since then, Nvidia brought out a geforce1 sdr, GF1 ddr, GF2, GF2 Ultra & MX, GF3, GF3 Ultra & MX, your card would be top of the line, 2years ago, not anymore.

I have a Dell system Pentium III @ 1.0 Ghz 256 mb RAM. I recently upgraded from Windows Me to XP. Let me tell you this... Max Payne doesn't crash on my computer but what happens is really weird. Once in the game, on the main menu the background is now all white, all I can see are the options, New game, etc, etc.
Once i enter the game, it sort of happens the same thing, the graphics look weird. I tried uninstalling the game, guess what? Same thing. I tried updating my drivers, you know the answer to that one, didn't work as well. I even contacted Dell to get some support, they don't have any idea of what's wrong. When I try to update my device drivers Windows Xp says that all my drivers are up to date. I even contacted Tallonsoft to see if they can do anything, they said they can't support WIndows XP since at the time Max Payne was released, windows XP was not between the OS that they support, so basicaly is up to Microsoft. Is there anything that I didn't try? Please I know there are guys out there that can help me with these. I am desperate!!!!!

XP can't know if your drivers are up to date. Find out what kind of graphics card you have, and get new (XP compatible) drivers for it.

What i am saying is that when i go to the Device Manager and i try to update the drivers it says, windows can not find any updates to your device. So i assume that it won'tlet me upgrade it. Dell has one of the best customer service programs, but even when i go to their online support system, it won't show me any software or driver upgrades avalaible

You would have to have downloaded drivers from Dell or whoever made the display adapter (nVidia, ATI, etc) beforehand, then unpacked them (if they were zipped or otherwise archived) for the "Update Driver" wizard to find anything. Even then, you might have to use the Advanced options to find and install the drivers.

In some cases, the drivers are packaged in a self-installing .EXE file, and you wouldn't have to use "Device Manager" at all.

Another option would be to go to the Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) site, search for updates, then look under the "Driver Updates" section.

I haven't seen any nVidia drivers on Windows Update since late last year or early this year, but I know they have 3dfx drivers. Display drivers from Windows Update support only Direct3D, but that would be enough to get Max running.

EDIT: WARNING!: I just installed the nVidia Detonator XP 21.83 WHQL drivers, and they caused a BSOD when I tried to bench them with 3DMark 2001. I had the same problem with the 21.81 drivers released some months ago.
