View Full Version : Bullet lag?
When I shoot at a wall a medium distance away, there is a farily large lag until the bullet hits the wall..When I shoot at my feet it hits immediately, so there is no mouse lag. But at any distances greater than at my feet the bullets seem to take way to long...I have to "lead" my shooting at running enemies that arent even that far away..Is this normal?? images/icons/confused.gif

Is there allowance for the time it takes for the bullet to make its' way? Yes.
Should it bother the game so much that you need to take it into account when aiming? I don't think it is THAT slow. Do you experience any other jerkyness or slowing?
No other jerkiness..I have 1.2Ghz athlon, sblive5.1 and VIA chipset and no problems!, 256meg ram, GeForce2 GTS 32Meg it runs really smooth with no other problems. If it is not meant to be a consideration when aiming then it REALLY is lagging considerably..I just timed a shot to a nearby wall - 1 second. It was in the room just after Max gets beaten up with the baseball bat -not even that long. But shots at my feet are still instantaneous.

Definitely should not be that kind of lag. Is it just that specific location?
I would start by taking a look at the drivers on both your graphics card and sound card. What versions do you have?
Humour me, do you know how to get fps on screen?
write -developer on MP icon =>properties=>launch game, press F12 to go to console, write showfps, press F12 and press F11. Now you should have fps number in the top left corner. Go to the place where you measured that instance. Aim at the wall in the distance and see FPS. Now aim at your feet and look at the FPS. What do you see? Is there a notable difference?
Im using Asus video drivers from the CD: v7700 deluxe gts v5.33a (geforce2)
SBlive drivers are the most recent from their site (also tried older ones that came with the card) version 4.12.01.0906 dated 8/25/2000. Ive disabled the sblive and tried the onboard legacy audio (K7TPro2A/KT133) and no fix
The fps are pretty much constant at 40 no matter where I shoot.. with and without bullet lag there is no notable difference images/icons/frown.gif This problem occurs at every point in the game..in small confined spaces & large outdoor spaces
digressing, I have "conservativeswapfileusage = 1" and adjusted VM so that min/max values are 384mb if that helps..Also tried just about EVERY screen resolution/color/detail combo and no difference

Get the drivers 21.85 from http://www.guru3d.com. They are pretty good if you ask me.

That's not really a bug. The bullets actually travel through air instead of doing line casts like in most other games. In Max Payne the bullets fly slower than real-life bullets so that you could see them in slow motion.
It's not a bug - it's a feature. images/icons/grin.gif
I tried the 21.85 drivers and they didnt make much difference..In fact dropped the framerate in Q3, DeusEx, and 3dmark.
SkavenRMD: I do agree with your comment, but the lag seems to be too extreme... If an enemy is running perpendicular to me, then I need to aim at a spot ahead of him and let him run through the bullets..They move just too slow to 'lead' him and continuosly hit as hes running
