This thread is dedicated to the memory of the popular video game character Duke Nukem. Duke was a great hero to many gamers worldwide and his passing has rocked many gamers who still had hope for him after a long, long absence. While most of his fans have already left this forum there still remains some of the hardcore nuts. Please if you will post a brief statement for Duke Nukem here as this may be the only chance to pay respects to our fallen hero.

Duke you will be remembered as the best character in video game history, as you fly through the cosmos, we salute you.

I'm only here for the build engine, not Duke Nukem as a person. :p

So, we could safely say that yes, Duke is dead but the build engine is not.

Eagle, there will be more Duke Games. Just because DNF is Dead doesn't mean Duke Himself is.

LOL. Sounds like something my ole lady would ask me. I'm tempted now to go home with seemingly legitimate tears and mumbling Duke Nukem just to see her reaction. I think I actually did shed some tears over the bankruptcy at first.

You mean more pathetic spin-offs and mobile games?
Sorry, but a few mere big-budget "fan games" aren't going to suffice.
They won't make up for DNF. Nothing will. It won't continue on the legacy of Duke3D, or even the first 2 games for that matter.

R.I.P. Duke. The King has been dethroned. :(

we've never said that Duke Nukem Forever has ceased development, yes, we released the internal team, but that doesn't correlate to the demise of the project. - Scott Miller, quoted from the magazine Gamesauce on Shacknews, December 26th, 2009

There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production. (Emphasis mine) - Scott Miller, quoted from the magazine Gamesauce on Shacknews, December 26th, 2009.

"plus there are other major Duke games in production."

I just spit my coffee over this one.
Major games for Apogee means iphone/nintendo/psp/2d scrollers
His house doesn't put out blockbuster games, smaller less expensive to produce, higher return on investment (smarter business man). Create lots of low budget games make a little money on each instead of putting all your eggs in one basket. Oh crap here I go again with 3DR. Sorry tend to rant a bit about them.
-
Big budget Duke games?? - not unless some uber rich Duke fanboy steps in and purchases 3DR and takes it over...hmmm verrry interesting idea.....

I was referring to 3rd party spin offs, ie. Time To Kill.

It is not Duke Nukem Forever. That is what's wrong with it. :mryuck:
I honestly don't see why I need to spell this out for you.

Time To Kill and LOTB are decent games, and I owned them both.
But games like them look like rubbish when held up to Duke3D, and they become an enormous letdown after all the DNF hype.

:cake: :tinyted:
It's like being promised a delicious cake for 13 years, only to be given a Nilla Wafer periodically, and then at the end, you find out that the epic cake has been cancelled, but hey... It's okay, right? You still get a Nilla Wafer every now and then!
(PS. They're stale, and you have no milk or frosting to dip them in!)

What I'm saying is, spin offs (Time To Kill) and mobile games (Duke Trilogy) are cool and all, but the fact that DNF is never going to be released makes them completely unexciting and stale.

They are not developed by 3DRealms, they do not continue on the legacy, and they will never deliver what DNF promised us.

Duke Nukem Forever is finally "DONE".

EDIT: Don't forget off-brand... Needless to say, these are far from quality wafers.

Duke is like Freddi and Jason - he a royal PITA to kill.
simple burial/memorials are not enough.

It takes the skills learned from 13 years of sitting with your thumb up your butt to really bring him down for good.

You've all been had. Duke's death never happend. It was staged and you fell for it. You've been tricked by a Holoduke!

Wow, I must say that the DNF Holoduke is quite impressive. It lasted 12 years before going out, while the Duke3D Holoduke lasts only a few mere minutes of game play. :D
