... making movies based on board games?

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/movie-talk-magic-8-ball-movie.html

I don't know if I should be intrigued or scared. On the one hand, these seem like they'd be even more of guaranteed fail than video game adaptations, but on the other hand, the writers get a lot more room to play around in because with board games, the characters and plot are nearly intangible, and can be written from scratch.

Robot Chicken comes to mind...

Heres some good ideas

Monopoly
Scrabble
Mouse Trap
Doom 3, The official Movie of the board game based on the video game.

Come on... has Hollywood run out of ideas

:D:D:D:D

Didn't see the Max Payne movie, but the graphic novel plays out pretty well.

There already is "a magic 8 ball movie" , it's called "interstate 60".

Weird, but I can actually see it working, because the biggest problem when you see a movie based on a game is that you are "WTF! This is not like the game, it blows ass!" "Doom guy would never say that" and so on.

But with board games there is not really much to screw up, but there also isn't a lot to work with, it's difficult to call, but I still think it could work unless they were stupid enough to base it on something like Crossfire - lol, a 3 hour movie of just two guys shooting balls at a puc, trying to knock it into a goal... Unless they did it as ice hockey with guns, now that's an idea that might work to some extent. I'm rambling anyway, but those are my thoughts.

Considering Ridley Scott is currently developing a Monopoly movie I'd say all is lost.

I'm expecting something similar to the spirit of Clue with that one. Something slightly off-the-wall with really colorful characters. I think Monopoly has more hope than everything else in the list. The only drawback is that a greed-driven comedy isn't exactly a new idea.

What is wrong with finaly making a Bloodrayne movie that is remotely connected to what the games where about?

That's what made the Boll Bloodrayne so excrutiatingly bad.
Never mind the campy, or the bad acting, or the bad plot.
But making a movie about a nazislaying vampire, and have it without nazis was just epicbad.

*Hero gets punch in the face*

Hero: "You hit like the rest of Baltic avenue pansies"

*Villian gets hit and falls to the ground*

Hero: "Do not pass go, do not collect $200 Bitch!"

Villian: "Damn, now I will never get Boardwalk. It's because you pieces and that damn shoe."

I am expecting pure cheese from the movie lol.

At the very least, I expect a priceless scene based on the "just visiting" space. There will be much taunting, and the taunting will be epic.

Well, I´d be happier if Uwe Boll was at least not involved at all... :p

You know that they already made a film based on a board game. It was called clue ( name of board game is Cluedo in Europe ).

He seems to have passed a corner though.
I really thought Postal was apropiat and rather funny.
And i have actually heard good things about "Darfur" , even if it seems like "not my type" of movie.

Wouldn't surprise me if World of WarCraft would fit into this category...it's both a PC and a board game, and could wind up being a movie before too long, if Blizzard has their way.

Sadly, WoW has a better chance of being a crappy movie than any game movie in history, because of the size of its obsessive fanbase. It's as much of a no-brainer as making a Twilight movie.

You know what would be a great game movie? L4D, but it would be a comedy/spoof showcasing off the bugs and problems from the game. Then add in all the horror movie cliche's ands jokes such as the black man having a 99% mortality rate.

One scene:

The gang reach an airport and a plane explodes as it crash landed near by sending them in the air. Bill landed on and edge of a building three feet off the ground. Dangeling there like a helpless child as his friends scrambling to try and help him. Francis runs up the stairs to the roof and ends up falling to his death as he tried landing on the same ledge Bill was on. A minute goes by with his fingers slipping one by one and he ultimately falls to his death at three feet. The two mourn the deaths and then cheer up as they found items. Louis then goes into a song sequence about his love for pills while the infected dance with them. However, they find Bill and Francis trapped in a hero closet and they make an obvious homosexual rerfence and then save them.

Well, that was more based off the comic book series, and the video game is most likely based off the movie, like the original Iron Man movie was. Kinda like clockwork, don't you think?

Well as if the idea of turning Battleship into an alien invasion movie wasn't "brilliant" enough, this will also be the first film that singer, Rihanna, stars in.

They're out of their minds.

I'm hoping somebody eventually films Risk 2210.;)

That would be incredibly ironic, since this whole philosophy of using old franchises so there's no way the film can possibly lose money, represents the antithesis of risk.
