View Full Version : Super Meat Boy!!!
Now that Epic has announced that they get out of the PC-business (totally because of pirates and not because their last games were subpar) and if there is going to be a future for PC-gaming it's not going to look like Gears of Wars anymore (:D so, no more brown space marines?), I present you a small indie-wonder: Super Meat Boy! (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=e8x9H93QZew)
I have played the early flash version and remember it being bloody hard and awesomely absurd. And now they have upped the ante - there are 300+ levels, all full of devilishly hard deathtraps and the absurd humor is even more pronounced. I personally love the cutscenes shown in the trailer and the music is just right for that game. Something to wait for, surely. :)

WTF does this have to do with Epic?

Meat Boy was always too hard for me. I didn't have the patience to improve.

Because Epic has become another AAA-developer to say, that from now on they will focus on consoles as PC-gaming is dying. And they emphasize that it's pirates fault. That is becoming the excuse to just flee to console-market, where you can sell generic spacemarines for big cash easily.
I brought up Super Meat Boy to show, that no, PC-gaming is not dying, and it does not have to 'look like Gears of War', as Epic's Mike Capps puts it.

Well, if you looked through the end of the video, you can clearly see that is coming for Xbox Live Arcade. Even den button Layout (X Y A B), are in the Xbox 360 colours.
Yes is will be coming to the PC (because of the relatively easy porting job), but its by FAR on the 360 the money will be made, and the guys behind Super Meat Ball knows that.
As much as i loved Pc gaming, and hated consoles, the past 15 years, i dont see the pc as a competitor anymore. **** hardware, **** graphics, **** controls... Its all about the distribution platform, and where the money is..
And thats on Xbox 360, Xbox Live, and iPhone gaming. Thats it.. So in gaming businness perspective (Besides FEW exceptions, ala. Wow, etc), the PC is Dead!
The Super Meat Ball guys know that if they release their game on the PC, they wont live long. Their business will ultimately fail.. The only logical way is to release the game on XBLA or iPhone.
Hell, the guy who created a Fart sound, and sold it for a dollar on the iPhone App store, is a millionaire today. And earned much more money, than the hard working indie guys who tries to make PC games..
I know which ballpark im in!

Yeah, that's why Epic is helping their sub-studio (People Can Fly) develop their new FPS game for the PC. Makes perfect sense.
Epic didn't emphasize anything. Cliffy B made one comment, that other members of Epic have said they wished he wouldn't have said. Which is pretty mark... Cliffy says something, Mark comes in to clean it up.
If Gears comes to PC or not is up to MS, not Epic.
And, either way... this has absolutely nothing to do with Super Meat Boy at all. On topic, SMB... go.
