Seems like people consider 90% of all games since like 5 years ago to be severe dissapointments. So what games did not dissapoint you?

Only thing that comes to my mind is L4D. I can't point out much things that I consider wrong or annoying in it. I might come up with more later.

Within the last five years, huh? Lemme see...

SWAT 4 Stetchkov/Gold Edition
Unreal Tournament 3
The HL2 Episode Games (I know the original HL2 game was a 2004 title, but the franchise went into the last couple of years, so the Episode games count)
Borderlands
Prey

So far...

Alan Wake
Dead Space
Wolfenstein
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Borderlands

Honestly I could go on...

Mirrors edge
BioShock
Borderlans
Metro 2033
Serious Sam HD (both the 1st and 2nd editions)
FlatOut 1 and 2
Crysis

Everything else I either didnt like, didnt live up to the hype/previous versions, or was so bad I never finished them (there were a lot of the latter).

I felt HL2 was a worthy sequel to HL1, which given how much of a classic it is, is quite the compliment itself

Resident Evil 5
GTA San Andreas (IV dissapointed me very much)
The Half-Life 2 Saga
Portal
Bully Scholarship Edition
And to a degree Mass Effect.

Edit: I forgot The Sims 3. That game really surpassed my expectations. If you combine all the good stuff from The Sims and from The Sims 2, you wouldn't make a game as good as The Sims 3.

Too many to list. But I'll list a few:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Left 4 Dead
Pokemon Platinum
Valkyria Chronicles
NHL 08, 09, 10
...the list goes on.

Disappointments are easier to list as I think my disappointment list is like 10 games.

GTA: Chinatown Wars (DS) comes to mind for me.

I usually just take note of whatever Aegeri likes, so I'm rarely disappointed.

Out of the ones I play recently:

-Flight Simulator X (even with it's massive CPU requirements (dual core 3 GHz if you don't have SP1/SP2 installed), when set up right with my payware add-ons, this game allows for hours of fun).

-Unreal Tournament 2004 (I've always found it fun to play, even if you're just playing against the bots. Has tons of maps and gamestyles to keep you entertained).

-Duke Nukem 3D (Always has been fun).
-Left 4 Dead
-Bioshock (Very interactive game. Lots of gadgets to fool around with).
-Half Life series, Max Payne, Doom 3.

In the last 5 years?

Portal & maybe Bioshock. That's about it. Have to go 6+ years to find the bulk of 'em.

Left 4 Dead: Amazing game and incredibly fun to screw around in with co-op. So much George Romero homage.

Borderlands: I really didn't give a shit about this game and had only even heard of it as "that game with a bazillion guns". I love this game. Bought it and all the DLCs.

Personally, it's so horribly bad... it's hilariously awesome. The dialog had me laughing from start to finish... funniest damn game ever.

honestly, they are all too expensive, or being old too hard to find.

ummm, so idk

but seriously they all suck when you've played them as much as I have

Well...that's a toughie after hearing that one. I always go to the ends of the earth to innovate new ways of playing the games so that they DON'T disappoint, which in some cases can be easier said than done. I usually get involved with modding communities to find answers to make even the most crappy games play better than I could ever imagine.

Adding Splinter Cell Conviction since the original previews when it was announced were really disappointing for me but the final product is excellent.

that's nice, modding is easy, huh?

never done it, but anyway not that I care. But anyway, a game is like a movie, the first time you watch it, it's great. second or third time not so much. can't wait for next gen consoles

or maybe i can wait, it's called having a life, hahahaha

Well, adding on to games and/or changing things around (I believe Saints Row 2 is a good example of a crappy port), but with a few mods, you have probably one of the better sandbox games you'd ever play. Look at the Gentlemen of the Row mod that's out, that winds up turning the game into something that Volition WISHES they could have done with it.

ZuljinRaynor
05-30-2010, 10:29 AM
Is there a mod that gets rid of all that gangsta crap?

dukeonly
05-30-2010, 01:48 PM
it's called 'the eminem mod'

so you liked bad company 2? i appreciated that one. liked the first one better but second one didn't suck either.

Second one has better multiplayer. I got the game for that. And 32 players on PC > 24 players on consoles.

Haven't posted in this thread yet. Well, 2 games I've played recently have turned out to be far more fun than I imagined which are Fallout 3 and GTA4. I was hugely letdown by Oblivion and GTA:SA (well, ok, no I actually enjoyed GTA:SA for a good while but now I just can't stand it anymore) so I was a bit doubtful.

There are many other games that I enjoyed but those didn't come as a surprise.. Usually if I expect a game to be good and I play it it's either good or bad, but I don't much expect a game to be bad and then go out of my way to try it. If Telee hadn't gifted me GTA4 a while back I probably wouldn't have played it for years.

Maybe I might add Outcast to that list, I had played it a few years ago and thought it sucked, gave it a shot again last summer and I expected it to suck just as much but I really enjoyed it the second time. Same thing happened with System Shock 2 and Call of Cthulhu, at first I hated them, then went in a second time and enjoyed the shit out of them.

multiplayer 2 was better exept one thing, they didn't bring back the laser designator. I really liked to sit back and pick people off with the laser designator.

Would you like to swap on an air craft carrier only do die and wait 15 seconds to respawn to die again? That was BF2. Thank god base rape is much more laid back in BC2 compared that.

Go play Modern Camping 2.

He probably would always join the team that was doing the base raping.

So even though he still sucked ass, he would feel a sense of accomplishment when his team won.
