This issue may also affect Windows 2000, or Windows 95/98(SE)/ME configured for multiple users. I haven't tested it there, but others may have.

This issue existed with both the release candidate and final versions of Windows XP. Originally, I wasn't sure if this issue resulted from Windows XP being a work in progress (such as the "top row" keyboard problem that users attempting to run Max Payne with Windows XP Beta 2 (build 2462) encountered) or a problem/oversight with the installer.

I install Max Payne as the Administrator, and when I launch the game, the graphics and sound settings are optimized based on information gathered during installation.

Later, when I play Max Payne from a regular user account, the graphics and sound settings are set to "Medium" across the board.

I worked around this issue by starting Max Payne as the Administrator, taking a window shot (ALT-PrintScreen), pasting and saving it to an image file, saving the file in the "Shared Documents" folder, then referring to it when I start Max Payne as a regular user to set my initial configurations.

There's obviously no way to fix the installer that's already on the CD, but if code could be added to the next patch (if there is another patch) that re-analyses the system specs as the original installer does, then saves this information so that it is applied to all users (not just the one that installed it) this would make configuration easier for users in multiple-user environments, which will potentially include everyone that switches to Windows XP, or buys a computer with Windows XP installed.
