T & L is transform and lighting. It is various visual effects in games. Software T & L is the default, in which the processor handles things. Hardware T & L allows the video card to do the dirty work, which lets the processor worry about other things like AI. Unless your video card is old, then you should have Hardware T & L. This will improve performance dramatically (unless you have the darn Detonator XP drivers...thank god Remedy is in a beta of the patch), so use it. If you only have software T&L and it runs like crap, then you'll have to dig into your files and disable it. Go to your device manager, access the controls to your video card. You should be able to disable T&L. If you can't, there should be a bar, maybe under My Computer, where you can lower hardware acceleration. That's about all I know...

There are only a few cards with hardware T&L, the ATI radeon series and the Geforce series of cards, that's all, nothing to do with recent.

You don't need to disable anything, just select software T&L rendering under Max payne startup options. Do not turn hardware acceleration off under the options screens or wherever, you will only get worse performance.

You can disable sound accel. if you have crashes you think are from the soundcard.
