Will the VE support hardware mode, because it's running abysmally slow in software mode, enough that it is pretty unplayable and it should be fine on my computer.

My system is:

Pentium 1.4 GHz
128 megs ram
64 mb Radeon VE
and other stuff...

Alright, mind pointing me towards the right drivers or settings or whatever, because there is only the software T&L selection on the Max Payne launcher.

You have to install some Radeon tweaker in which you can find a command to enable T&L engine on Radoen Ve that have this disabled.

RADION VE DOESN'T SUPPORT T+L HARDWARE .
I HAVE THAT CARD ....I WENT TO THE RADION64VIVO AND IT DOES HAVE IT .
THE CARD IS A BIT MORE BUT ITS WORTH IT .
I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM RUNNING THIS GAME WITH IT .

Well you can use radeon tweake 1.1.96 if you have windows 9x and 2000, well the link is:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=15633
first you have to install another small program than run togethwer with the radeon tweaker ìi'll give you the link
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gtkmm/
DOWNLOAD BOTH of them thaninstall forst gtk andafter the tweaker so you'll be able to set on a lot of feature
