MP needs 5mins to load

I have a strange prob with Max payne. Everytime I start MP it needs about 5mins to load (Load Picture with progress bar in bottom stucks at 30% for long time). After that MP is there and i can play as usual, but I also notice not the best performance. I tried to reinstall several times, and played with acceleration bars for the Soundcard in DirectX Settings. Tried also my older Geforce1 DDR and reinstalled W2K several times. Nothing helps.
I use SIS´s AGP 1.07, ATI 3281 for 2K and latest 2k/XP drivers for my SB Live. I also tried to deactivate the SBLive via Device Manager but then MP wont start at all - stange in comparison to other posts where SB Live was often the problem.

Can some1 help me ?

I also have this problem, though I never allowed it 5 minutes to load up. I always restarted before it could load. Maybe I'll let it got for a while next time. Anyway, I know what you mean. What's going on?
