I installed max payne and got the error that i did not have Directx 8.0. It
was "Max Payne requires DirectX 8.0 or later. Please see (and so on)." I
then installed 8.0 from the max payne disk. When I restarted my computer,
it stopped at the Windows ME screen and just kept making loading noises. I
pressed esc so i could see what was happening. It was constantly repeating
something like "cannot update file %1 to %2" or something. So when it
finished, Windows ME started, and i determined that 8.0 had been installed.
So i try max payne again, and i get the same error. So i download Directx
8.1 from Microsoft.com and install it. the same thing happens with the
stopping at the Windows screen, but it finished and loaded Windows. I STILL
got the same error that i didnt have DX 8.0. I bought the game used, if
that makes any difference, and my sytem is a Compaq 850 mhz P3 with 128 megs
RAM and an NVIDIA Xtasy 5564 GeForce 2 MX graphics card. I emailed Talonsoft and i tried everything they told me except tyo update drivers (and I REALLY prefer not to, I tried and it totally messed up my picture and i quickly changed it back)Please help! Sorry if it's a cliche, but I cant find any simple answers! I also downloaded the 1.02 patch.
