Max Payne doesn't start up for me...
the game installs correctly but it doesn't even load up because the cd rom stops reading the cd after a good 3 minutes of loading and then I get a windows error which says:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

I have no idea what it means... it's not the computer itself because I'm running a pretty high end machine. Just has something to do with the cd rom I'm assuming... any help would be appreciated.

This is probably a copy protection issue.

Try doing a search of this forum for "Safedisc"

Someone re-posted a "Safedisc troubleshooting guide (http://forums.3drealms.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000396)" from another forum.

Hopefully you'll be able to find a fix. images/icons/smile.gif

There are other ways for dealing with copy protection, but they can't be discussed here. images/icons/shocked.gif
