ERROR: Failed To Validate Material

That is prefaced by a sugestion to downgrade resolution and detail(which of course does not work). The error appears after hitting play on the initial pop screen which flashes black twice then quits to desktop.

i have a similar problem to your. the eroor message says: "An error has occured in the graphics engine. try to downgrade your screenmode and/or other settings by pressing the 'options' button in max payne startup dialog. MAX PAYNE REQUIRES A DIRECTX 8 COMPATIBLE DISPLAY ADAPTER. PLEASE CONSULT THE TROUBLESHOOTING README IN THE INSTALLATION FOLDER.

that happens to me right after the intro movie ends.

P4 1.5GHz, 512RAM, 16MB NVIDIA video card, directX 8.1, windows XP

I just downloaded the leaked form of the latest NVIDIA refrence drivers at tweak3d.net and that solved my first problem but now I have the following quit to desktop error.

Exception in engineInit: Invalid data read from an R_MemoryFile("")

It his about 9/10ths of the way through the first load screen.

This is piss off anoying- anyway is this the bad memory error that Remedy is talking about? Thanks

hey ewatts. i went to that site and downloaded the thing for XP and the only thing it did was take some words off the error message that i get. if u look up at my post before this one, youll see i had a long error message. but now that i installed that thing, it only says "max payne requires a directX 8 compatible display adapter. please bla bla bla bla bla... and instead of the message coming up after the intro movie, now it just comes up a few seconds after i click the icon. is there nething else here that i can try? oh and if u didnt know, that crashing to the desktop error u got now, if u download the 1.02 patch for max payne, that should solve that problem.
