I just bought MP and after installing the game, it will not run. I have downloaded the 1.02 patch and installed it. When I start MP, I see a demoshield program start, the Max Payne Logo appears in the middle of my desktop, the CD spins for about 10 seconds, then the logo disappears and nothing happens. Anybody else experiencing this problem?
My PC's config is as follows:
Win2000 Prof
Direct X 8.1 (No uninstall for DX on Win2k)
AMD 600
Geforce2 GTS
Sound Blaster Live
394meg Ram
Any sugguestions?

It will run on 2k (& XP) - it's not just the OS's fault - it's most likely a driver issue.

The only thing I can think of is that possibly your CD-Rom drive can't deal with Max Payne's CD copy protection. I had this trouble with Rune and No One Lives Forever. Luckily, my brand new Lite-on burner had no troubles. Most of the new burners and DVD-ROM drives are okay with the copy protection. Do you have another drive you could try?

No, I dont have another CD-ROM to test with. I can try and update the drivers for it. BTW, I have an Acer x50 CD-ROM.
After I update the drivers, I will post whether it worked. Thanks for the tip.

I have the Aopen 50x CD drive. It may be basically the same drive as I always see this: "Acer/Aopen" at online stores. Mine is by far the best CD-Rom drive I've ever used. The downside is that I can't install "jack" from it. It fails with alot of games' copy protections. You may have to invest in another drive. If so I'd suggest getting a new DVD drive (~$55) for game installs. I think that the newest technology is going into burners and DVD drives and not so much in CD-ROM drives anymore. But of course I could be totally wrong on this...
And definitely try Spazer's suggestion.

Well go figure. I just got the full game, installed it, and now I can't get it to run. So I took the CD out of my Aopen 52X CD-Rom drive, put it in my Lite-On 12X burner and it works fine. My Aopen as usual couldn't deal with the copy protection.

This is a longshot but you might want to try what I suggested in this thread:
