I thought this was a great movie. It's about the bomb disposal techs working in Iraq except the main EOD guy is an adrenaline junky who takes unnecessary risks because he loves it. But he is endangering the lives of his team.
Great acting and the tension really came through. It all just felt real. When they showed up on scene and were there a bit too long you could feel the tension and fear of snipers, it really came through. Katherine Bigelow the woman that directed Point Break did it and I think it's the best movie about a Mid East conflict yet made.
Anyone else see it?

I haven't seen it, but I've heard good things about it. If i see it available on the on demand service, I will check it out.
The latest 2 i saw were Traitor and another one with Leo Cap. Forgot the name of that one. :o I think it had Russel Crowe or the other guy that looks like him in it as well.

I found it overrated. I'll have to watch it a second time and devote my full attention to it then post my thoughts.

it was way too intense for most people. that and the movie producers are suing people for downloading their video, meanwhile they based it mostly on some guys life story who got nothing. way to go.

Well yes they can do that.
meanwhile they based it mostly on some guys life story who got nothing. way to go.
The guy in question who was one of the many soldiers who were interviewed and researched in the writing of the film also did nothing.

Haven't seen it, and probably won't. Kind of over the whole "realistic" war movie thing now.

As someone who's actually been to Iraq, the movie was difficult to watch, not for its "intensity" but because it's so unrealistic as to be downright laughable. EOD guys never go out and clear rooms, let alone entire buildings, and they certainly never roll out on missions all by themselves in one vehicle. Most of the EOD guys I've seen just sit in their vehicles and send the robots out, and very rarely go out in the bomb suit themselves.
The ACUs that all the characters wore didn't exist in 2004. The main character is constantly referred to as a staff sergeant, even though he wears the insignia of a sergeant first class. The most ridiculous was the scene where the main character tugs at a wire under the dirt and reveals six or seven 155mm artillery rounds in a radial pattern around him. Yeah, those shells weigh 95lbs each, and he was wearing a bomb suit. I'd like to meet the guy that can actually do that.
Still, it had some suspenseful moments and it did an excellent job capturing the filth and dirtiness of that country. It was just too "Hollywood" for me to really appreciate it.

Hey FMJ great to see you and good to know you made it back safe, thank you for your service.
I know they were some really stupid things that are unrealistic but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. The thing that really drove me nuts was when they were in the sniper battle and after a few people had been capped they are hanging out on the ledge waiting for the ammo situation to be fixed and they didn't duck back down. That made me crazy it was so dumb.
And never mind what the shells weighed when he pulled on them there is no way in hell anyone would do that. Pull a 95 pound shell out of dirt buy just the wire? What are the chances of it coming out and the thing blowing up in your face? About 80% at least I would think. But that shot was for drama and for looks. Remember by definition half of the population is below average and they go to the movies too.
What I really loved is when they rolled up and where around too long and you could see that they were starting to attract attention and there was a sniper threat, to me it just felt real. Gave me a little taste of the stress of being over there and having to do that kind of stuff where it's your life on the line. At those times the acting was great and it conveyed to me that feeling of danger better than any movie I have seen about a war in the Middle East.
And anything you'd like to add about your experiences and how they differ or were similar to the movie I would be outright fascinated to hear and I'm betting so would everyone else. MOAR!

I enjoyed it, I don't care if people say it isn't realistic, I'm not saying it is, but it doesn't detract from my entertainment.

hollywood is stupid and they assume everyone else is. you still see people getting shot and getting thrown back 10 feet, not to mention tons of other silly things.

Yeah, but oftentimes that doesn't happen in movies that profess to be "realistic".

^This is probably the reason why I had so much issue with it. I watched it a second time today and it couldn't catch my attention really. After hearing all the shit my course staff has told me and listening to some of the guys in my unit I just had issues with the way the movie was done.

I can understand how you military guys get annoyed by it by I knew a lot of it was BS and still liked it a lot. All of the actors were great. I'd rather see that Renner guy get all of the roles that are going to the Avatar guy. He could not make me beleive he was a demigod in Clash of the Titans. But Liam Neesan and Ralph Fienes were convincing as Gods. The other guy couldn't make me beleive he was half a God. Maybe Jeremy Renner could but he's a little bit less of a pretty boy. We know Hollywood doesn't like that. Charles Bronson and John Wayne probably couldn't get a gig if they were out there right now.

I thought the tone of the film was really something else. Kind of Platoon-esque... except Platoon was a better flick.
Still, I enjoyed watching it.

You know what else felt real to me, when the black guy goes into the whole, I hate this place speech. He was a really good actor too, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him.

I know the film isn't accurate and doesn't realistically represent what it's really like over there. But, from a film viewer's perspective... I loved it. It was an entertaining movie and I really liked it.
Not the best war film I've ever seen... but a solid one that kept my attention throughout.

I found the movie to be overrated. Not bad, but not the best picture of the year good.
