I have a Sony Vaio model pcv-rx560 and Max Payne would give a graphics engine error. It has NVIDIA and Windows XP. To fix this problem so you can play Max Payne do the following:
Go into System Properties---Hardware---Device Manager---Display Adaptors---Driver---Update Driver---click "Install from list (advanced)"---click "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install". There were 2 different drivers.
NVIDIA RIVA TNT Model 64 (Sony)
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64
Assign the driver that doesn't say "Sony".
I have had no other problems with Max Payne.
