Max not even start. I get no erreor messages

I hope someone can help me out.
I´m seaman and I bought Max payne when it was realeased in the USA. When I go back to germany I tried to start Max. I made full installation and tried to start the game. Windows 98 give me the sound for opening. I get a small white quarter and a window on the task. After maybe 1 second Windows 98 gives me the sound for closing. The window in the Task disappears and the white quarter too. I don´t get error messages or something like that. It just open and close after a second.

A lot of American games will not work on other contries computers, you can try an put as your location USA, might help, altough the rest of your games could stop to function, unless you put it back.

A few days ago, I used an US patch on an European game, and it refused to start, so that could be it.
