Will Max Payne 2 utilize the original Max Payne engine? Will it be enhanced in any ways?

I want the answer to be...
Yes, in fact we're working on a truly holographic and immersive arena where YOU are max payne and you play in this giant warehouse where you can walk around and continue the story in full immersiveness...
Wasn't that an episode of the X-Files?

FPS was one bad episode. The only thing that redeemed it was the cyberchick who was quite the looker!

Cyber Chick? Excuse me, she was a "Cyberassassin" who killed people in the "virtual basement" of a "virtual parking garage" ... didn't you read the article?! images/icons/grin.gif
Worst. Episode. Ever.

I hope they get a new engine. I don't even care if they don't have modding tools. The last engine was pretty bad. Max Payne had no AI period. It was all scripting.

The term AI should be non-exisent at this time in the computer game world.

Nothing has artificial inteligence!
True it can work out what to do next from what is going on but only from over-complex code that basically looks like this
If (character position == someplace)
{
somebadguy.walkhere;
{
elsif (character position == someotherplace)
{
somebadguy.walkhere;
}
If artificial intelligence (the true meaning of the word) existed then we would all be its slaves or we would all be dead.

I hope they are putting new butt technology (http://forums.3drealms.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=003472) in Max Payne 2. images/icons/wink.gif

Pong? Tertis? Super Mario World? Max Payne's AI was bad. No question required. One might expect better AI if you encounter Police in the game. Even if it is the NYPD.
you guys hated the FPS episode? dude, I loved it.. I just really like the lone gunmen

I'd like to see more hit areas, and make the enemies act accordingly, like Soldier of Fortune did. Also, cut out so many useless scenes. I nearly fall asleep from killing a guy and then having to watch a 10 second animation of a camera doing a 360 rotation as he falls down...why cares? And then I have to see the whole story. I just want to blast, there should be a way to turn taht off.
Also, add face-rendering. I can't stand Max Payne's smile. First scene: His wife's getting raped in anotehr room, he's running all pissed off, the camera zooms in on his f*cking stupid smile!!!
Also, it would be nice to have a multiplayer support: here's how images/icons/grin.gif
Have a "collective" bullet-time. Whenever a player clicks, the bullet-time "pool" starts to decrease and all the players switch to the bullet time mode. Yes, you'll have the "bullet time fags" waste it all in the beginning. However, that problem could be solved by each player having an INDIVIDUAL bullet-time meter, and he/she can choose to switch into the mode, and all the players go in. But taht would bring the problem of "why should I use mine when everyone else gets the slow-mo too".
PS. SURROUND SOUND!!! If we're going hardcore time-tweaking 3d, we can make a surround-support can't we now?

Bullet time isn't the only issue.
The engine does not have network code. If you build an engine for multiplayer purposes, the whole engine, every part of it, including collision detection, time scaling, animation system, projectiles, etc, have to be built with networking in mind - which poses its own limitations into the engine.

I think he meant more varied death animations, and/or perhaps a physics engine like MGS2 or Hitman that makes bodies slumo in corners and land realistically, instead of clipping through walls.
Personally, I wouldn't mind that, but just more death animations is fine with me.

I didn't mean "go rip the SoF engine". All I meant was, increase the number of hit areas, like SoF did when they made SoF2, just to add realism. Just because they did it, doesn't mean you can't do it. Of course, along with other things. All I meant to say was add more realism to it.
OK, here's anotehr idea for you: how about more dodge animations? Like, a dive-roll, or a twist or soemthing. There are currently four (left, right, forward, back). How about different "combos" to activate others, like a jump off the wall, or a side-roll or something.

Add more "realism"? Come on, be honest and just say "add more features/detail" and I'm much more convinced. images/icons/wink.gif (if realism is what you're after, go play Harpoon)
But that later idea sounds like you're getting on the right track. Adding interesting gameplay mechanics is more important fun factor wise than the number of ways the enemies can die.
I feel stupid saying this, because I'm usually the first person in our team to beg features like that, driving our coders crazy and getting told over and over again that "gameplay comes first". images/icons/blush.gif
Nevertheless, you shall see when the game comes out. graemlins/wid.gif

Worst. Episode. Ever.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">FACT: the word assasain derived from hashhassin, a group of cold blooded killers that killed rulers for money hiped up on hash hired by cruel kings in the middle ages.
MYTH: half naked "Cyberassassins" with swords kill innocent gamers in giant warehouses while playing a game similar to max payne.
