If there would be Max Payne 2, how should enemies die?

Um, I think the animations are fyne. I just want to see some people barely fly back when they're shot with bullets that aren't shotgun shells.

Some falling-to-their-death animations would be desirable. Also, a lot times you don't just die instantly, so some SoFII type dragged out drama queen deaths would be fun to watch.

They are, but there's one problem with those: the player can keep shooting at the victim during them, and even decapitated, they still continue performing, sometimes staggering around on legs that aren't there.
Hmm. I dunno. I guess I could ask some game developer nearby if he wanted to build an insanely complex if/then causal tree for the death animations? You know:
</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">IF enemy is staggering (frames xx to yy in this and this animation) AND player shoots him in the head THEN enemy collapses, performing animation Z if this happens during frames n-o, animation Y if this happens during frames p-q, ELSE finish staggering death animation</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">IF enemy is grasping his throat from a throat shot AND the player then shoots him in the private parts THEN switch grasp location priority</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">IF enemy is performing a dodge-roll AND gets shot so that it kills him during it THEN play animation X if this happens when the enemy is starting to jump, play animation Y if this happens when the enemy is rolling, ELSE play animation Z</font><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">And so forth. See how far you can carry on before your dear programmer strangles you with his mouse cord. images/icons/smile.gif

Anyway, the one fault in Max Payne when it comes to shooting people is the hit-moment/animation/sound/reaction. You know, in SOF2 when you shoot someone it's like they can feel BAM, and you see it and hear it. In Max Payne it's kind of boring to fill an enemy with two Mac10 mags... and it shouldn't be dear Remedy images/icons/smile.gif For my mod I'm going to try some new animations and see if I can improve it, but I can't animate myself, so I feel sorry for the animator I get dragged into doing that images/icons/grin.gif Also, in Max Payne, after someone is shot they don't react to bullet's at all... Now I'm not saying we need floating rag-doll reactions like Hitman in slow-mo, but just some twitches in random directions would rock images/icons/smile.gif The cutscenes are still a bit raggety, but they are quite okay for story telling. I wish they were a bit smoother though, it's so easy to see that the enemy has preset locations to walk images/icons/smile.gif
