I recently reinstalled Max Payne under Windows XP having already played upto Chapter 1, Part 5. Now I've just completed part 7, but I can't get into part 8.

The story book at the end of 7 loads, and then part 8 loads successfully, going into the video of the Ragnarok nightclub. About ten seconds in as the video zooms in to the Ragnarok neon sign, the screen freezes, and I have to restart my computer. A similar thing happened a couple of times during part 7 when I was looking up at the helicopter in the sky for too long.

(Sorry about the long post, but I thought I'd put in as much info as possible)

Anyway my system is:
Asus CUSL2-C motherboard
Celeron 900 MHz
ATi Radeon 64mb VIVO (OEM)
SB PCI 128

So far I've tried whatever old Radeon drivers I had, and also the current latest XP drivers (both beta and official) and some Omega drivers, but the same thing happens with each set. I've also patched the game to 1.05 but this didn't help either. I don't have any other games installed, but I do have 3D Mark 2001 which can loop many times without trouble. Also my computer in general is pretty much perfectly stable, Morpheus is the only other thing which ever crashes, but at least that doesn't take my entire computer down.

Anyway, when my PC gets back into windows, I get this error message popping up:

Computer restarted after an unexpected shutdown. Microsoft Windows detected a possible device failure.
The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update.

Along with messages saying the error was probably caused by the Radeon and asking to send the error report to microsoft.

Aaargh, please help! I just did the end of part 7 absolutely perfectly but lost it all because it goes into the story book, video scene and then crashes!
