I need some input on an ultimate system in the USA only that will play MP at all high settings SMOOTHLY and very QUICKLY. I currently run Win98 SE with a RIVA TNT2 ULTRA video card with 32Mb RAM onboard, 256 Mb SDRAM physical/main, and AMD K6-2 450Mhz processor. Any logical and hopefully experienced inputs greatly appreciated. USA only PLEASE!

I play it on a Pentium 4 2.2 ghz with 512 DDRAM and a GeForce 4 MX-440, but my system is overkill for MP.

450 mhz!!!!! Jee-zus! Upgrade that! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL GODS!! I feel so much pity for you! 1.6 ghz, 1.8, 2.2! ANYTHING! And everything else is ok, maybe change your video card to a Geforce4 if money isn't a problem...
My 1.2 Tbird + 226DDR + GF3 Ti200 plays it perfectly Theres no need to go for GF4 ^ and especcially not the MX versions go for a GF3 Ti200 or 500 they beat the gf4 MX cards hands down.
Unless of course u have money to burn and can afford a GF4 Ti4400 or 4600 then i suggest getting one.
Oh yeah and get rid of that processor first that will slow anything else u do to your system down.

I play on a Celeron 400! And the worse part is, I don't care! I'm just damn glad I can run such a great game! So what if framerate goes down everyone in a while? I save on bullet time! images/icons/wink.gif

Money isn't a serious problem, but we've not got it to burn, hehe If 1GHz speeds it up at all MAX settings, then what type of processor would ya point me to...for a decent price? If ya can, make it easier for me by showing me the links where I can go to obtain this CPU? I'd love that. usually the places that I often go are to www.pricescan.com (http://www.pricescan.com) or www.pricewatch.com, (http://www.pricewatch.com,) maybe you could post a direct link to what you find? I'm such a clutz with this. Thanks! graemlins/hhg.gif

Since I operate my Win98 SE on a barebones system, I shouldn't have any problems with the faster motherboard/CPU combo.

I appreciate the info, now can you point me to where you'd recommend me buying it? Details with a link are always appreciated! graemlins/hhg.gif

ROFLMAO! Unlimited bullet time, without a mod.
~~Ahh, Finally got back from the big decision making spree. Looks like the winning system on my budget is the following (I had the details written on a sheet, but my wife has it and don't know where she put it):
Motherboard: Asuss(sp?) for $92
CPU: AMD Athlon 1.4GHz for $120 (I asked for extra powerful performance and this is what they offered)
MEMORY: 256Mb DDR RAM for $97 (my current RAM set isn't supported on the new motherboard)
Heatsink and Fan for $17...
...and the video card will have to come later since they did say that my current video card will push all the way on all medium settings. I'm good with that for now. The total price including tax has been rounded up to about $350 w/out the video card.
Thank you all very much for your invaluable input! images/icons/smile.gif graemlins/hhg.gif

I too have a Celeron 400, GF2 MX400, 192 mb ram, and MP runs great( 30+ fps ALL the time).

I also have a older system, a PII 450Mhz, VisionTek GeForce3 Ti200, 256MB Ram. I get excellent framerates(not sure of the exact count), at least I think their okay. I have no problems playing MP, of course I think the vid card helps a bit. I used to have a 16MB TNT RIVA vid card, that was okay, but the new GF3 blows it away. images/icons/grin.gif Eventually I will upgrade my mobo and cpu, most likely with AMD, as they are a bit easier on the wallet then $Intel$.
