Here's my specs:

Windows 98
P4 1.7Mhz
256MB DDRAM
52x Sony CD Drive
GeForce2 400MMX 64MB
C-Media sound card
Directx 8 installed

The problem is, it always says "Max Payne requires a DirectX 8.0 compatible display adapter." Even though I have already download the video card's latest driver from NVIDIA.

I have also read all the related solution on this forum but still I can't get on the GAME. images/icons/frown.gif

Any idea?

i would start by reinstalling max payne, then i would run the dxdiag and see if directX is seeing the drivers without error.

images/icons/frown.gif Chris I've already done that but still it won't work, including the OS.

try setting your desktops display to 16bit color and a lower res then try running it.. other then that install the latest directx and hope for the best.

Try right-clicking on 'My Computer'
Select Properties-->Performance-->Graphics.
Make sure the acceleration slider is all the way to the right.

Hmmmm.. I haven't tried it yet NutWrench. I'll tell you on Monday if your suggestion will work. I can't still try it on my computer now I'm out of town.

Anyway, thank you guys for helping me. I really appreciate your suggestions.

images/icons/smile.gif Hey Nutwrench. I really appreciate your solution but still it won't work.

Guys? What do you think is the problem?

Do you have any other video cards installed on your computer? Including ones built into the motherboard? Maybe Max Payne is detecting that card instead of your GeForce 2. If that's the case, you can disable it in the Device Manager.

I think NutWrench is right. Or maybe you have used the wrong drivers (for a different card) or Max Payne uses the wrong Vid. Card. I have a Geforce 2 MX 400 (Tv-out) as well and MP works great.

Try booting up in Safe Mode and check your Device Manager. Sometimes extra drivers turn up in Safe Mode that don't show up when you boot normally. If you find more than one GeForce 2 driver in the Device Manager, remove them both and re-boot normally so Windows can detect it properly.

If you have a built-in graphics card, like an Intel i810, you'll have to disable it in the Device Manager. (Unless you can find a jumper switch on the motherboard). Just removing it from the Device Manager won't work, because Windows will always re-detect it when you re-boot.

Finally, check your BIOS settings. If your computer has video built into the motherboard, there may be an option to enable/disable the onboard graphics there, too.

Yeah, it's true I have built-in video card. But it didn't appear in my device manager, only Geforce 2 appears.

I'll try to check my BIOS first.

Thanks guys..

I'll tell you again if it won't work.

Nutwrench, your suggestions still won't work.

I've already run OS in safe mode but only Ge Force 2 card appears, no other video cards. I have already check my BIOS and read my motherboard's manual, there is no built-in video card. Sorry if I have told lately that there is built-in card (I thought there was).

Are you sure you have DirectX 8.0 installed?

If you've had to re-install Windows recently, Windows will sometimes revert to whatever version of DirectX originally shipped on your Windows CD. (When I re-install Windows 98, my DirectX version switches back to version 6.2). Try re-installing DirectX anyway, even if it does say version 8.0 or higher.

(You can check in the Control Panel by clicking on the DirectX icon)

I would also try downloading and installing DirectX 8.1

Yes NutWrench. I have already installed Directx 8.1

Maybe I should try buying another CD of Max Payne?
