I've noticed in Max with my 9500 Pro, there has been major lag during the intro and finals levels, especially in elevator sequences. Scouring the Rage3D boards, I was not the only one with this problem.

Recently I had to format my box and neglected to backup the 1.05 patch. Being a dialup user, I just reinstalled and played without it. Low and behold, no FPS problem/lag! To test my theory, I installed the 1.05 patch and the lag returned.

Unfortunately without the 1.05 patch, the game frequently encounters the "crash to the desktop" problem. With a little Googling however, I was able to find the 1.02 patch and use it.

I no longer get the desktop crashes, and Max runs as solid as gold. I have no clue why this problem is relative to ATI cards and the v1.05 patch, but this fix worked for me. It may just work for you images/icons/wink.gif , give it a shot if you're having FPS troubles.

How about the Radeon 9700 pro? I have the same problem. I have the 1.05 patch also. I also have the start bar on my computer popping up. Could this patch be somewhat the responsible?

I didn't even get as far as playing. images/icons/shocked.gif

On first execution of 1.05, there was major mouse lag in the menus. images/icons/shocked.gif On subsequent executions, the lag nearly made the menus unusable. images/icons/shocked.gif

Reverting to 1.02 cleared that issue up. images/icons/smile.gif

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP1, DirectX 9.0a, Radeon 9500 Pro, Catalyst 3.2 driver suite.

I also have the start bar on my computer popping up. Could this patch be somewhat the responsible? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The "Flashing taskbar" had been an issue since day one, and was supposedly fixed, either with 1.02 or 1.05.

Bump. images/icons/smile.gif

I just got an email from another user that has issues with Max Payne 1.05 and a Radeon 9700, and was looking for the 1.02 patch. I did a Google search, and some sites still have it.

If he posts here or emails me that regressing to 1.02 was successful, that will be a third successful repro of this issue.

I have a AMD Athlon 2400+ with 1 Go of RAM and a Radeon 9000 Pro videocard, and I also got an horrendous slowdown in the final part of the game as well as the elevator sequences of Chapter 7. Whenever I'll get around reinstalling Max Payne (I had to format my computer lately) I'll check that fix out. images/icons/smile.gif

It looks like this issue resolved itself. Not sure if a Catalyst update fixed it, or DirectX 9.0b.

Good. If anyone still has probs with this I can spend a moment to investigate. Or alternatively you can request older patches from us as well.

I'm running R9500Pro on my work PC.

(Although I'd much rather spend that moment to ensure Max2 runs images/icons/smile.gif .
