View Full Version : Rave screenshots
I'm a bit bored at the moment after spending hours in MaxED, so I thought I might as well pimp my work in progress Rave level (If you've visited my site then you've probably seen all these before)

Looks very good MPH ! Seems very promising!
Keep up the good work! images/icons/smile.gif
These are the things I still need to do:
> Make an opening cutscene. That'll require me to do some scripting and finish modelling my police car.
> A bit more geometry, all the player accessible areas are modelled, I just need to finish off a couple of streets for the intro, should be relatively easy.
> Touch up / finish off some of the AI scripting.
> Test the lighting. This is the most difficult thing as it takes so long (I like to test each room once with final quality) Some of the outdoor streets are quite large, so rendering them takes a long time, zzzz...
> Make an ending cutscene.
> Once I've finished off everything, I might make a graphic novel introduction, not sure though.
And then, the level will be more or less complete... graemlins/love.gif

Why is this called rave? And is it prefabbed?
Looking good

Why is this called rave? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Because the beta version from Dodge This included a nightclub.
And is it prefabbed? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I doubt it - or very little of it.
U like showing off don't u?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Isn't showing off a basic human right of any modder? images/icons/wink.gif
And is it prefabbed?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I try to avoid using prefabs whenever possible (except for my own images/icons/smile.gif ) as you don't learn much that way. I've used a couple though:
> Remedy's toilet
> Remedy's street lights
And that's about it.
Why is this called rave?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">There are a couple of screenshots on my site (in previous posts) of the actual disco / bar / rave part of the level.

Can anyone make a 1/2 descent looking toilet? How the hell did they make those things?
Street lights? There a bit basic arn't they, why did u use a prefab for them?

Toilet's gotta be planned. I had problems making a good one without any boolean errors, took about 15 tries. And I didn't even bother doing anything with that map images/icons/grin.gif
I put the street lights into my level ages ago (probably about Feb / March) I wanted to get some basic outdoor lighting going without having to worry about modelling street lights. Also, my MaxED skills have improved a lot since earlier this year, so now I can make own street lights - they're almost done.
Talking about lighting, last night I discovered the art of making the lighting from windows on buildings look good. I use dummy lights, but they always end up producing harsh lighting, so I popped the lightmaps in to Paintshop Pro, gave them a gaussian blur and put them back and now they look perfect images/icons/cool.gif
Toilets are a milestone in MaxED images/icons/grin.gif That's one Remedy prefab that'll definitely be staying.
