Well, I just learned the basics about mod-making and working with MaxEd.
I tried to combine two mods: DualWeapons and Kungfu 2.0
I've tried both ways to move kungfu parts to the dual weapons-mod and also tried to move dual weapons (like dual desert eagles) to the kungfu-mod.
Just when I've moved every file and gave them weapondIDs... error message comes. It complains about kungfu. Says that "kungfu" and "kungfu" use/have same ID, which is impossible due the fact that there is only one kungfu-weapon in the weaponid-filelist.

So... what to do?

Also, how is it possible to combine mods, levels, normal chances (more bullet time, more powerful ingrams; x_data.ras) and language
file chances (x_english.ras) to one, single modification?
Always been wondering that...

So... what to do?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Your problem could be a couple of things. If you are trying to run a mod's .mpm and have a "data" directory in your Max Payne folder then try renaming the "data" folder to something else. If you are working off of the data directory alone, then try looking for kungfu defines in files, and make sure you have no duplicate files. When playing Max Payne, select "<none selected>" from the Mod list at the bottom of the startup dialog (that's if you are working out of the data directory). Just always be sure that when playing a mod via .mpm you need to throw all of your original .ras files in the MP folder and rename your data dir so MP won't take data out of it.

images/icons/rolleyes.gif <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If you're talking about combining two mods, then one way is to unpack the two mods you want to 'combine' and go through and look at differences. The ACTUAL differences in the .txt files and .h files and whatever other files you want to mix. You'll have to probably cut and paste data from one mod to the other, you can't just simply move files. Make sure that you don't have duplicate files, and also remember that the .h files are important too. Those files are where your #define s are.

It is possible to do it, you just have to keep trying.

If you are trying to make an .mpm, you need to use RASMaker. It comes with the MAX-FX tools. An easy way to use it is to create a shortcut on your desktop and make the "Command Line" look something like this (right-click on the shortcut, then select Properties):

"D:\Games\MAX-FX\RASMaker\RASMaker.exe" -a data mymod.mpm

Where "-a" tells the program you are making a .mpm; "data" is the source folder (I don't know if this can be a path to your MP folder, I just copy the data folder into the RASMaker folder); and "mymod.mpm" is the packed filename.

Maybe I explained all that a little bad, someone else will probably do it better, ALAS it is early in the morning (and this seems to have been the longest italic comment on the bottom of a post ever).

I think I saw this post at MPHQ the other day.

Anyway:

I've moved every file and gave them weapondIDs... error message comes. It complains about kungfu. Says that "kungfu" and "kungfu" use/have same ID, which is impossible due the fact that there is only one kungfu-weapon in the weaponid-filelist.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I think that's the problem - there is one kung fu in the id list, but two kung fu weapons. Check your weapons directory and confirm that there is only one kungfu.txt - there shouldn't be, because windows doesn't allow duplicate filenames. So, I would bet that you're running kung fu seperately as a mpm file while trying to combine the mods in the database. When the game starts up make sure that no mods are selected in the menu - just let it run from the data directory. If it's not that, then it is probably a problem with the id values. You'll need to go through all of the weapon database files to make sure that none of them share the same id number.

As for combining mods, sir_plague has pretty much covered it - cut and paste job. I would recommend adding the dual weapons mod to kung fu, because kung fu is by far the more complicated mod. It's also worth while trying to compare the mod files to the originals (i.e. find out what your actually changing), you may find (as I did) that you can do a better job by applying your own changes.

You can find some decent tutorials (including one for adding weapons) here (http://zer0mods.bwad.org.uk/main.html) - just click on the tutorials button.

Best of luck.

Wow That was four months before I came on the board http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. After seeing a review about the kungfu mod.
