Helly everyone,

I would like to reinstall Max Payne and play some of the best user made map packs out there! I don't want just single levels with no story. Can you please list the best ones out there, I haven't played any user made levels. Is it possible to install kung fu mod and play those levels?

^Sad but true, I'm afraid. images/icons/frown.gif

Max Payne level downloads (http://www.maxpayneheadquarters.com/dlcat.php?cat=level)

Off the top of my head, the ones worth downloading are:

BladeRunner Evolution
The Lab
Both Backstreets levels
Fighting the war,
Authentic Maxtrix Lobby
X Demo
The Killer Episodes
Quender Pack

Actually, there are quite a few levels worth playing...

These are quite good too:

regeneration
gore feast
psycopath's diary (short but sweet)
town of eternal night
Just4fun - another short but good looking one

The chances of getting kung fu 2 into them is slim unless you know a bit of modding. Read the mapping tutorials and extract the level mods. With the mod's data folder stitting in your max payne directory; run max payne and select the kung fu mod. Cross fingers.

I had to run MP with KF 0.9 all the time on my old computer so it wouldn't lock when I exited MP.. and most levels I tried with it ran fine..

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You also have two BladeRunner levels (seperate from Evolution), two HighStakes levels (voiceover sucks, but levels are descent), and LightSabre 4, which I can't believe Maddieman failed to mention. images/icons/tongue.gif

That's the hard and brutal reality in the MP community images/icons/tongue.gif

two BladeRunner levels (seperate from Evolution), <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">There are? Made by StratonAce, or someone else?

EDIT:

I've just downloaded the other ones you mentioned, and I'm about to try them. I'll post back later with my verdict.

Wow, those are some of the best user made maps I've played. The Highstakes maps were particularly good, although Bruce is right, - the voice acting is dire. What makes a change though, is that not only was the geometry ambitious, but the optimisation seemed to be apparent as well - not the slightest trace of slow down or lag. My only two complaints would be that again, the difficulty seemed to be pitched at quite a high level (hmm...maybe I'm crap at this game), and also there was too much lighting. Some more shadows would have given the level(s) a much better atmosphere.

The bladerunner levels were good too. I can't say it actually blew me away until the end, which was quite staggering for some reason (I think the music helped). As for the second level, it just shouldn't have run that smoothly! graemlins/tinyted.gif The MaxED engine is not supposed to handle outdoor areas very well, but this mod didn't seem to lag at all. A pity it ended so abruptly, though.

One thing I've noticed however, and not just with these maps, but with almost every user-made map out there - is a trend with the enemy layout. If you look at the Remedy maps, almost every conflict is based on Max Payne ambushing or jumping out and surprising the badguys. In contrast, nearly all of the user-made maps feature deliberate traps with bad guys waiting in formations for Max Payne to step in the room. Not that there is anything seriously wrong with this, but I'm starting to get the impression that this has a significant impact on the difficulty of the level. That extra second you get, while the enemies are startled, seems to make the difference between a good map and a bad one. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but thinking about it, almost every conflict in the Remedy maps features some sort of hesitation from the enemies. Certainly something to consider the next time you make a map.

^The ending with the window scene looking across the city made up for it, in my opinion. However, I just took a look at StratonAce's evolution trailer and his looks even more impressive.

I think Strat and AEW collaborated on Evolution for a while, then Strat took over the whole thing...
