Today I said to myself what the hay? It appears everyone likes Max here, so I figured I'd try it, and DAMN it's good. The graphics are great and the gameplay is awesome. Can't wait to finish the demo.

Just wanted to say this. images/icons/smile.gif

In Russia jewel cases will never cost like full versions in boxes with manuals (this one costs about 70$). I'm sure I've bought a licenced one since it had all levels of licence security. Maybe I'm not right of course.

I repeat - just because it's in a jewel case DOES NOT automatically mean it's real.

In fact, Max Payne didn't ship in a jewel case anywhere to my knowledge, it was in a DVD case; but I'll have to confirm that it never shipped in a jewel case.

What if it was a second-hand copy? The original owner loses the dvd case, but the licence is still transferred over Cathome.

I don't know what CatHome is, but most software companies (ourselves included) don't recongize transfer of ownership in that manner.

I don't know what CatHome is <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I believe he is the person who got the game in a cd jewel case. graemlins/doh.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Hmm.. I thought you could transfer the licence to another person, provided you transfer everything: cd, manual, box, etc.

Also, stores like EB do game trade-in deals. Some people lose the case, so EB sell it in a tempory one (like a jewel case) for a cheaper price.

EVen if you sell it to someone else, that doesn't automatically mean that the new owner is recognized by the original company.

Ah, that's different then (quick response btw).

In my opinion, Cathome's cd is either pirate, or a second-hand copy. I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt, and believe that it's legit. It all depends where and when he bought it. If he got it from a shop, then it's their responsibility for selling him an pirate copy. If he got it from a car boot sale - then he should have known better. images/icons/tongue.gif

I would have thought the art on the disc itself would have been a dead give away (although not impossible to pirate).

I've bought cd in a shop. Seriously, now I'm at a loss.

Maddieman

Does it have a design on the cd itself? (not a label)

I'm sure it's fine - Joe's just trying to get you to purchase another copy at the full price. images/icons/wink.gif

Yes, just like in pre-releasing advertisment.
Joe's just trying to get you to purchase another copy at the full price. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I understand Joe.

Joe, after this discussion I'll buy a 120% licensed MP2 copy, I swear laying my hand on my mouse. Seriously, I'll do it. images/icons/wink.gif

Over the weekend, I've found out that in Russia, Max is indeed sold in a CD. However, we'd have no way of knowing who registered those, because I don't even know how the company you bought it from handles registrations, if it has a reg card in it or what.

I purchased my copy of Max Payne from my local Best Buy... The disk has the Max Payne artwork, the box contained all associated cards and manuals, and the cd was inside a jewel case, not a dvd case... And I live in the USA.

As for Joe's comment that if you sell it to someone else, that doesn't automatically mean that the new owner is recognized by the original company, most original companies don't even recognize me. I don't register my games, or anything else, unless I am absolutely required to do so. I hate giving out personal information about myself, and half the stuff they want to know is none of their business.

No - I'm not, and I don't appreciate that. EVEN AS A JOKE. images/icons/mad.gif <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm really sorry if I annoyed you Joe - it wasn't intentional. Clearly I was being stupid, and pushed your patience that bit too far. It's a delicate issue, and in the future I'll be a lot more careful about what I post.
