i bought max payne the day it came out for 50 dollars, US. back then i had a measly geforce 2 mx pci w/ 32 megs of ram, and the experience was ho hum. i enjoyed the game, however, and was fairly active on this section of the forums.
well, a lot happened between then and now. somehwere along the way i got into the mods that were popping up, but eventually my interest wained and i sold max payne for a measly 16 dollars US back to EB.
recently, i picked up a brand new video card, a geforce 4 ti 4600 w/ 128 megs of ram. (if anyone here has this card, they know what i mean when i say WOW images/icons/smile.gif )
so, today i took back hitman 2. i liked it at first but it dissapointed me towards the end.
and there, on the shelves, was max payne, now 20 dollars US, and i made the best decision i have in a while. i picked it up.
playing it on the geforce 4 is amazing. the graphics, the gameplay, its so smooth and breathtaking that im amazed i ever sold it in the first place. GREAT job, Remedy. i am definetly a satisfied customer.
i think im going to hang out on this section of the forums more now. the DNF forums are rarely interesting, which is where ive spent most of my time while here at 3drealms.
anyways, im making this post because i have a couple of questions about the paynester.
One, what mods are big right now? im talking the cream of the crop, the ones you must have. ive been out of the max payne scene for a while and have no clue whats going on.
two, and this is a question really for remedy that i dont really expect warrants an answer, but is max payne his undercover name? i mean, if he's a cop and has to infiltrate a mob family, and is given an identity that gives him a reputation as a pretty rough guy, wouldnt they also give him an undercover name? his wife calls him max, but the baddies all call him max payne as well! anyone who knows about this, could you please divulge some info?

Three, i was wondering about his smoking habits. the SAME day he supposedly quits smoking, his wife and child are murdered. i dont understand why he wouldnt immediately start again, since i smoke and know that if my family was killed the day i quit i would immediately pick it back up again.

thanks to anyone who posts. i know this got to be a long message, but im excited, dammit! images/icons/smile.gif

The mods to look out for are (in no particular order): Bladerunner Evolution (http://evolution.paynereactor.com/evolution-news.html) , Kung Fu 3 (http://kungfu.maxpayneheadquarters.com/) , K2: Cold Steel (http://zer0mods.bwad.org.uk/main.html), Discworld (http://www.discworldmod.net/) , and The Matrix: Revisited (http://zer0mods.bwad.org.uk/main.html) ....none of which are anywhere near completion. images/icons/grin.gif

However, you may be able to pick up previous versions/betas on their websites. And what the hey, why not download Katana version 1.1 right now: Download (http://zer0mods.bwad.org.uk/LT/odtrack.php?url=http://www.changingculture.com/katana_mod.zip) images/icons/smile.gif

Check the modding forums for screenshots, videos, and development info. images/icons/cool.gif

Well, when you can hear the mobsters calling him Max Payne, they already knew him for who he was. I guess you can assume that he had an alias before that.

I guess Max had learned what the Surgeon General said about smoking... images/icons/wink.gif

Glad you're enjoying the game again. And especially glad you've also paid for it again. images/icons/grin.gif

Not even his wife and child brutally killed can get him go back on his bad habits. Not to mention a cop gone bad offering him a cigar...
