Guys,

It would be great to hear what was your favourite map in Max Payne and why that particular map was good in your opinion?

Who knows, maybe we could learn something out of the replies. Feedback is appreciated.

Hi ,

I liked the first level (Subway).

I guess i like those maps , i think killing a thug with a shotgun and then him fall on the rails is cool , it would be even more cool if then a train would just pass by images/icons/smile.gif

-Max Payne's House!
-The club also ruled...because i go to similar clubs images/icons/smile.gif very realistic..

And any part of a level that is outside in the snow, with cars and busstops..or any part where you can look down from a high building..and snipe some junkies.. images/icons/grin.gif
The tutorial level also looks very good!

I thought they were all tops.
The burning restaurant and the levels outside and inside of the hotel were great. The club was cool, too.

I don't know if I have a favorite, but I do have a least favorite. The nightmare one where you're running around in the dark room on a red trail with a baby crying all the time. Arrrrrgh! Drives me nuts!

I'm going to have to side with Joe.

The thing that drove me wild with those levels is that I couldn't save my game when I was in the middle of the blood maze. I mean, I could save them, but I couldn't load them. My entire system would just freeze. It was hella annoying.

Getting through those parts with out falling or running too fast. ARRG!

For best level I would have to say the restaurant was truly an experience. The hotels and the Asgard building were also very fun to play. I loved sniping from those large circular balcony type structures. images/icons/smile.gif

For me, it was "An Offer You Can't Refuse" and "With Rats and Oily Water" images/icons/smile.gif

For one, Vladimir was really cool. images/icons/smile.gif If there's an expansion pack or sequel, I hope he's in it. images/icons/smile.gif

Driving around on the container hoist and sniping all the guards in the towers was really cool, too. images/icons/smile.gif

Then, in the end, finding all of the "Hi-res hardware" images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Two really, the First hotel level because it was well designed for framrate/gameplay. The other being the subway level because it so reminds me of level design that I do.

Those were the best:

1: Ragna Rock. Great atmosphere, great gameplay. Original, realistic looking. Looked close to my old hangout.

2: The cold an inhuman AESIR Corporation Headquarters building! I remember the art on the walls, and the modern sculptures in chapter 8...many nice details there.

3: The hunt in the garage level! Action!

4:Cold steel/deep six. Great idea with escaping from building blowing up. Swell design. Detailed.

The rest:
All New York levels are essential for the story, the only drawback is that I have seen it used too often elsewhere. The Rosco Street: Subways are in loooooads of shooters, but it looked super this time. Same for the container areas where you work for Vlad. The cargo-boat was best. The hotel levels were swell....and the snow-storm outside was an ultra-super idea.

The Drug Trip !
The sounds and camera angles were awesome.

Petri,
I think the Restraut level was fantastic because it was unique; unseen in shooters before.

I also loved the part with the helicopter spraying bullets at Max in the skyscraper. Very classy and hardcore. images/icons/smile.gif

I thoroughly had a good laugh at the end where all the useless SWAT teams come though. Great satire. images/icons/wink.gif

Feedback for improvement areas:

There were many great moments in the game but some could have being better. EG:

For the helicopter's chain gun, you guys could have worked a *REAL* heavy bass sound. Such that it would rumble the whole room, as it ought to be.
This gives the extra *oomph* which goes a long way into extreme statisfaction.

I think that overall, what Max's Levels should achieve is distinction. To put that more specifically, it means each level should be *truely* unique from the others.

A typical shooter = walking in coridors killing 1 bad guy after another and clearing rooms. While this is unavoidable in a shooter, the less this happens the better. Unique things like the fire level, the nightmare level and parking lot levels were the true factors that leveled this game's mission design from others.

So in short, create missions that are not corridor levels.

And a BIG thumbs up to Sam Lake for writing the best damn script in any interactive game ever. Hand down.

I personally think that each level has enough character to make it a favourite for at least the moment. Then you find something new around the corner.

But of favourites, I found that the "DeJaVu" Cut scene second time around in the second set of mazes to be my most memorable moment.

My sons and I where tag teaming when we ran across this much needed break in the tenion. It made us laugh, alot.

"Your in a Computer Game,... Slow motion to show off my moves,..."

Great script work by the programmers.

I think I liked the Asgard building the best. That cool bluish lighting gave it a lot of atmosphere, and I liked the music and blowing away all those masked guys with the Jackhammer. I liked the look of it much better than that typical "run down urban" stuff that permeates the early part of the game. Also the last big shootout (where that big column topples over) was definitely the best part in the whole game. The music, the atmosphere/visual style and the use of the Jackhammer weapon were what did it for me...

For me, the restaurant really caught me, it was so random and original in an action game that it was just a great experience (except when that flying barrel came through the hallway and caught me right in the chest just before I was home free).

My second favorite was the manor, especially when Punchinello dies and you kill those three goons and think you're all that just to walk out and find the 10-15 guys with Colts aimed at your head, great experience and script writing.

Well I liked the metro stations a lot.
Just like chapter The Baseball Bat. I was nice to notice that "Damn! I lost my Ingrams. But hey whats that bat?" and then go swinging around with it.

Manor and restaurants are good too but I prefer some space around. Itīs annoying to dodge aside just to find out that theres a wall ahead.

And harbour was great. Especially the warehouse just before the ship. It was a hella cool to dive to the top of that crate and blast the bastard below.

Now that's a great game. Some games have a few special parts witch everyone likes. But the spread on what peoples favourit levels are in Max Payne is large. I agree that all of the levels are exellent, so much time spent just to get it perfect with feeling of real life atmosphere.
So many great scenes. The feeling of nailing a good scene on the first try is so phat.

It's hard to name a favourite. But when you are on your way out from the inner circles HQ and the front door burst open with a suit yelling something about "..let's put an end to this" and the music starts pumping. That's sweet.
