Shotgun shoots too slow

If Max could fire each shot a little faster it would make it better. Its good during the first few levels of the game but after that ugh it just blows a$$.

What do your guys/gals think?

That's the way it is due to weapon-balancing. The shotgun is powerful, but it is balanced due to long reload times and a low ROF. If every shotgun fired as fast as the Pancor, then no one would use the other weapons because the shotguns would be too powerful, and the enemies in the beginning of the game would pose no challenge. That's why the Pancor is available at the end of the game. As the difficulty and amount of enemies ramp up, you'll need better weapons. The shotgun also isn't useless. I used both the sawed-off and pump-action all the way up to Part III.

Pancor?? are you talking about the jackhammer? If so i'm not saying as fast as the jackhammer just a little bit faster than it currently is. The shotgun is not that strong. bad guys can take up to three shots at close range thats BS! I also wanted to know why the jackhammer doesn't use the same ammo as the shotgun and sawed off. It does use buckshot doesn't it?

I just had a great idea. Ok at the start of the game Max shoots the shotgun normal. half-way through he says like i'm getting better with this shotgun I think I could fire it a little faster images/icons/grin.gif

No, the Jackhammer doesn't use the same ammo. It uses magazines. And also, why should they make the shotgun any faster, as Brass says it's all about balance...

The Pancor Jackhammer and the pump essentialy use the same ammo in the form of 12 gauge shotgun cartridges they are just loaded in a different manner, therefore in theory the standard shotgun ammo should be compatible with the Jackhammer.

I was thinking that to. That other guy said it uses magazines. Well somethings gotta be in those magazines and i was thinking the same ammo as the pump shotty. So why does jackhammer have seperate ammo?

Shotgun is not one shot kill accept maybe early game. After that it can take up to Three shots to take them down

Nah, if you aimed for the head/upper chest, it was a one shot kill basically up until the final level.

I've aimed right at there head and they have taken up to three the rare time, but usally takes 2 shots

aim more for the neck and you'll be able to one shot most guys, if you aim at the head often you miss and the shot hits the wall behind him, note you have to be pretty close too.

While other guns work nicely with shootdodges, I found the shotgun work best when combined with sideways rolls. Fire, roll sideways, fire, roll again, etc until you need to reload. Especially in the final Lupino showdown I found this technique useful for avoiding enemy gunfire.

Have any of you ever fired a pump action shotgun before. You have to moderate the pumping beause you don't want get that shell stuck their. It's a bitch get out.

I have never shot a pump action shot gun before. I want to. Also this is a GAME not real life so it don't matter how you shoot a shotgun in real life.

When shooting a guy with the shotgun press the bullitime button and dodge the bullets and shoot the guy and get up then do it again by the time you've done this max has reload his shotgun.that's if there more than one guy.

As long as you realize the shotgun's limitations, it can be a very good weapon at times.
1. It's only good at close range
2. slow reload time (which you can get away with if you let the bad guys come after you while you're hiding around a corner or behind a post).
3. It sucks bigtime in bullet time or shoot dodge.

It's just knowing when to use it to your advantage.

You have a very good point. I made this thread long time ago and I got better with the shotty, and found out it does shoot fast enough. I roll around now after I shoot it which helps very much. So now I say "shotgun shoots fast enough"

MC is absolutely correct a pump action 12 guage (or any gauge for that matter)pump gun shoots a lot faster than Max seems able to pull off.

Consider this - a Winchester slide action 12 guage holds 5 shells in the magazine and one "up the spout" for a total of six. You shoot the first round but do not let up on the trigger then every time you cycle the action the new round goes off just as soon as it is seated in the chamber. You can go through all six rounds in less than 2 seconds. Your aim might be a bit off though.
