View Full Version : Will Max Payne 2 feature gibbing?

I know gibbing suits more Duke Nukem games than Max Payne games, but... if in reality I launch a grenade toward someone and it explodes, the poor guy who received will be reduced to pulp, NOT just thrown away by the explosion!
But again, Max Payne is based on action movies and no action movie character has ever been gibbed. So... I'm waiting for an official reply (if it's not Area 51).

I hope there are no gibbing. It's way cooler when the bodies fly through the air.. no need to add gibbing... MaddieMan can do that images/icons/tongue.gif

Yeah.. I liked the previous version of katatan, so I can't wait until I get to play with your gibbing feature and Straton's level images/icons/grin.gif

Actually, the gibbing is going to take a back seat in this version of katana. It will be present; but like Devil Master was suggesting, it'll only occur when it's appropriate.

Back on topic though...

I've not played SoF2, but I know that had quite a lot of gore in it. Was the gibbing over the top or realistic?

Even so, they're probably aiming for a general 15 cert (in europe at least) so I doubt if gibbing or gore will be included.

I liked SoFII's blood effects - it made it look more realistic, though I've never booned down tonnes of people, so I can't say what it would REALLY look like to do that...

As I think of it, SoFII is the best example of trying to acheive too much realism in the graphics of violence. The game is really quite fun if you get around the effect of what turned out to be shock-effect gore, even though it'd be pretty safe to assume that that's not what the producers meant.

And Max would be...strange, with gibbing, but I've always been a bit prejudiced against it. Had some...bad early experiences with Blood II. *shivering* Ever seen 5 hearts come out of the same slaughtered pedestrian? It'll scar you for life.

After the crappy cutscene with the car on the rails, and the talentless first level design with all the same enemies I couldn't take it anymore and I had to get the hell out of SOF2 and uninstall it. I'll never try anything like it again... the horror... the HORROR... so I didn't get to see the gibbing except for the demo level. Yeah, the gibbing is fun, sicko... but it wouldn't fit Max Payne 2's theme. Although, some more impact on people when you shot them would be nice, ala. Hitman.

My only gripe with SOF2 was the lack of 5 minuet long death animations, however the powder burns from point blank shots where very nice.

I hope max payne 2 has some kind of per pixel damage system. even if its just a little red stain or something.

I don't get these "it's good because it's realistic" people. I play videogames to get a break from reality.

Maybe Max Payne would have been more realistic if a single bullet anywhere would injure the hero so that he'll collapse to the floor in pain and requires immediate medical attention? Maybe the hero would also have to eat, drink and go to the john? Maybe he'll become fatigued on a full stomach so he won't fight so efficiently? It would be more realistic, sure, but would it be more fun?

Next time you see a cool detail, say you like it's because it's a cool detail - not because it's "more realistic". And I won't get annoyed and urged to write crap like this again. images/icons/smile.gif

And what comes to gibbing, let me just quote our staff from a couple of years back: "Gibbing is not Max Payne's style."
