It might even have some competition with the Katana mod <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Unlikely - not for a long while, at least. images/icons/blush.gif

Katana just isn't finished yet.

Although, that said, I found it quite funny to read some of the features, and noting the similarities in the implementation.

What intrigues me is this whole running/standing attacks thing - I don't know if that was clever wording, but I'm really curious to find out how it works.

Needless to say, I think we're all going to find out soon enough.

That looks REALLY good. If I'm gonna nitpick, it's that interpolation between animations looks a bit weird in the second to last video, hope you can fix that Ken. The furniture breaking was pretty cool too, is that dynamic?

I wonder how many "infinite bullet-time" tweaks we'll be getting based around this one...

As for that furniture, I'm interested too about that question.

Will it include new levels AND A PLOT? Because if it doesn't, there's no way I'll download it.

The furniture breaking was pretty cool too, is that dynamic?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Looks like a cool, "simple but effective" solution. I suspect that when a character is kicked and starts its "knocked backwards" animation, it sends a special projectile that flies at the same velocity as the character. When the character hits something (another character, furniture), the projectile hits the target as well, and causes a "tumble damage" effect, whose results vary on the target: furniture smashes, characters tumble and solid materials poof clouds of dust.

Am I right Ken Y? images/icons/smile.gif

Ok,...someone please confirm this for me. In the excitement, did I miss this detail, or is the skill points system (explained in the techniques page) new since the last update?

the skill point system alone makes it worth playing.

EDIT 5: Uhhh, shouldn't this be in the modding section? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No, because we're talking about the general features. The majority of non-modders avoid the modding section like the plague and miss things like this. There's another thread in there for discussing the technicalities as and when we figure them out.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm kinda hoping that his move is more original, and not a direct rip from the film -- like my one is. graemlins/hhg.gif

Ken_Y

Don't worry Maddie, what I'm working on is not quite the same as your famous lobby kick. But my advice, get your lobby kick move released before a certain "other" (http://www.maxpayneheadquarters.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=303&sid=fdc0db2ead5192c725167925fbeaf899) game is released, that way you can claim it as your own first images/icons/wink.gif Because one thing that I've begun to notice lately (after Kung Fu 2.0 at least) is that lots and lots of other 3rd person games (Jedi Knight 2, Devil May Cry 2, Ninja Gaiden, Enter the Matrix, etc...) just "happen" to have wall running too. We gotta keep ahead of the competition my friend!

I don't think he knows me either and I have been posting at MPHQ for a year and a half. images/icons/grin.gif

The reason I joined there was Kung fu, so go figure...

Maddieman

I think the Matrix, Max Payne, and kung fu edition coupled with the fact that they were all released within a relatively short time of each other had a pretty significant impact on the game industry (although they'd probably not like to admit it).

The fps genre is experiencing a pretty dry spell at the moment, and if I'm not mistaken, we can expect a lot of 3rd person action games to appear in the next few years. Furthermore, with not one but two matrix films being released this year, we can probably expect trends like bullet-time, kung fu, and wallrunning to continue.

As far as the lobby kick is concerned, that's somewhat of a relief. Judging from those gameplay videos, it doesn't look like 'enter the matrix' is using it either, contrary to what I had previously assumed from this screenshot. (http://www.enterthematrixgame.com/img/screenshots4.jpg) Even so, I doubt I can claim copyright on it. images/icons/wink.gif
In fact, it would probably be better if 'the real world' kept a fairly low profile outside the community.

I'm going to let rip with Katana 2, however. Right after Postal 2 decimates the videogame industry?s fragile credibility. graemlins/hhg.gif

Nowadays the mod you make must either REALLY kick ass, shock or disgust people, or it must be released close to Max Payne 2, so newssites can go "new screenshots for Max Payne 2, and it seems mods for the first one is looking good, linktositehere" images/icons/smile.gif

Maddieman
02-23-2003, 05:56 AM
Nah..just stick the word 'matrix' in your mod title and you have an instant success. images/icons/wink.gif
