View Full Version : How to end "Max Payne"?

The Godfather

Along with the Tomb Raider-series, Max Payne is one of the most unbelievable and satisfying games EVER made!! However, where I could end all the Tomb Raider-games, I'm stuck at the end of Max Payne! Here it goes:

I've only got ten seconds left before that helicopter goes up and shoots me down. Since this is not the way the game should end, I've gotte do something within these ten seconds. I've already shot one wire of that tower-thingy and it's only held straight up by another wire, but if I shoot that one with my grenade launcher, then nothing else happens. What should I do in order to end the game? Please ... I'm desperate!

I'd shoot that other cable with your sniper. It will take a few shots, but it is more efficient than a grenade launcher.
And don't forget to shoot the base of the tower after sniping that 2nd cable.

You're closer than you think. You've shot the first wire, and, if I'm not mistaken, also the second wire (I shot it with the sniper rifle)? Then the tower has nothing holding it up anymore, so maybe you should give the wind a little hand...? images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I've also played some Tomb Raider. I loved the first game -- got it when it was new and completed it -- but didn't enjoy the follow up quite as much -- too tedious environments and tasks (though I liked the sunken ship, and Venice and the oil platform). Never finished the second and never played the third (read a negative review of it though...).

Anyway, good luck with the ending!

Thanks, y'all! Say: do you think ten seconds is too little to complete this task and ... what do you mean with: give the wind a little help. Do I have to make Max Payne fart?! Or do I simply have to shoot the tower after having shot the second wire? And what do I do when ten seconds isn't simply enough? I don't feel like starting all over ... at least not now.

Ten seconds is close, but it should suffice. If you're fast.
And yes, you have yo shoot the tower-base.

BTW: from where in antwerp are you exactly?

From where in Antwerp am I exactly (while I'm listening to Mick Jagger's latest "God gave me everything")? Why? Are you from around too? I'm from Kapellen which is one of the surburbs just outside (or just inside; for all I know) Antwerp. Where are you from, btw?

What?! I had over 30 seconds for the job to be done!

jump to the ledge and you'll see it goes out a few feet on a sort of downward slant. From the ledge you can position yourself for a better shot at the second wire. You then should be able to hit it with your Colt Command, Sniper Rifle, and maybe the smg's. In any case, it's a lot harder to hit it from any other posisition, tho people here seem to have hit from the roof top. I never was able to from anywhere until I found the ledge.

I'll try, but if those ten seconds don't seem enough, then I gotta do it all over again. No hard feelings since this is the first game which seems as nice to play with as Tomb Raider!! I don't have a clue how I wasted so much time since another fellow on this forum said he had 30 seconds left, but since this is my first time that I play the game, I probably did some things wrong. Could anybody tell me what I did wrong and when the counting starts actually? Quite important if you wanna finish the game.
Thank you.

I seem to recall that you had 1 minute or at least 45 seconds when the pilot starts talking about takeoff for the first time. Then he reports every 15 seconds or something, and the last ten seconds he's counting down.

If ten seconds isn't enough, remember that you have two quicksave slots (and one autosave). Try find an earlier savegame through the menu.

Do I have to make Max Payne fart?!<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">
LOL! I gotta make a "Fart Mod"! images/icons/grin.gif

YEAH!!!!!!!!
I found it!!!
I indeed got an autosave (even found it before I read the last comment) and from there (it was level III - episode 7) I went on to that last difficult ending. My mistake last time was that I started working on the wrong cable. There are two cables and so I started working on the most difficult one. With my grenades I aimed from a small roof and blew up the first cable, shot those stupid last fellows trying to stop MP (which doesn't stand for Marie Fredriksson, Melrose Place OR Must Pee, but it does stand for Max Payne) and then eventually worked on the second cable and shot the tower and it destroyed the helicopter and that was the ending.

I just wonder however what those two other possibilities are after having ended the game. There's one hardboiled and one New York minute. What is the difference between them and the normal one? Do you get more enemies? And why isn't the another option available? There's one 'death on arrive' (I think it is ...) and it isn't available. I'm just gonna take a rest from Max Payne and start playing Tomb Raider again. Maybe the fifth one ... that's cool too! Anybody who liked MP, should like Tomb Raider as well ... although the surroundings aren't changeable like smashing a computer or a window or something ... pity.

You gotta beat the difficulty levels in order.
i.e. - gotta beat Fugitive before Hard-Boiled. Then beat Hard-Boiled to "unlock" Dead on Arrival. Then when you beat Dead on Arival, you can try New York Minute. (at least I think Hard-Boiled comes before Dead on Arrival)

You'll have to beat it on all difficulty levels to see if there's any alternate endings. images/icons/wink.gif

I didn't bother with the levels. It's still the same game. I just unlocked the main menu and replayed chapters at differant levels and with differant mods.
