I know this sounds weird but I'm scared to play this game for some reason. I started the game thinking I would be ok.... but when I saw all the blood and stuff all over the walls it freaked me out! I finished level one (the first part the killing of his wife....which was scary) Keep in mind I'm 16 years old! images/icons/blush.gif
I was also scared a little bit on the game "ONI". this is pathetic! images/icons/mad.gif
I can't play games without someone being in the SAME room with me?!
I need help. images/icons/mad.gif

Ever tried using the parental lock? images/icons/tongue.gif
This topic is also in the wrong category. It should probably be in Max Payne General.

I can see where you're coming from.
Max Payne does have its fair share of disturbing moments in it. The dead baby, the blood soaked walls, and dead guy on the vibrating bed all raised an eyebrow from me. The opening level was frightenly plausable -- I think most people dread the thought of coming home to witness the slaughter of their loved ones.
That said, you are a wimp images/icons/tongue.gif . Most of Max Payne is relatively harmless, but I would advise you to steer clear of this mod (http://www.maxpayneheadquarters.com/dlfile.php?file_id=307) (and no, it's not katana).

The beginning of Max Payne is somewhat disturbing, but the rest of it is a lot less shocking. If you actually find the main gameplay of MP to be scary, then perhaps FPSs are not for you, really. After the beginning, there's barely any disturbing scenes at all in the game.
If you think MP is scary, then please never touch System Shock 2 ever unless you want an heart attack. Now THAT'S a scary game. images/icons/shocked.gif

See, the thing is, violence was introduced to me through films like terminator or aliens (when I was about 9 or 10) not video games (ooh super mario land --scary stuff images/icons/shocked.gif ). The way I desensitised the violence was by skipping or looking away from the violent bits; then the next time around I would watch a bit more, and so on until I could comfortably watch the entire film - gore and all.
You can't really do that with a video game, because most of it is in-your face, and interactive. It's a little easier though, at the moment they can't really simulate liquid like blood very well, and have to rely on chunks or gibs for their gore. Survival Horror games will usually make people jump, and there's not all that much you can do with violent symbolism in games.
Just an interesting observation, I thought.
then perhaps FPSs are not for you, really <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Or...third person shooters, even. images/icons/smile.gif

Use parental lock dude, I used to feel that same sickness in shadow warrior [anyone remember that? ]
Use that and you can enjoy a really great game of the century

Don't think the parental lock blocks out that kind of content does it?
In general those scenes are disturbing because of what they are, or imply; rather than violent content or gore.
The first level was very sad also for me...I would say not scary...but very strong not for blood or gore, but finding his wife an child killed in that way was really sad...I played games as Sof 2, for those that played it know what I'm speaking about...it's a games with lots of gore...even if it meke it very realistic...sometime I fould it disturbing.

Ya, you might be right, never tried parental lock myself
Well, Scared, it seems to me that this game is just not for you......at this time at least

There isn't much I have problems watching, apart from the death of Murphy in Robocop X-rated version (it's just a bit funny when the executive get's shot by ED209), and the whole Cannibal Holocaust (disgusting sick crap movie, very infamous, DON'T WATCH, made me wanna puke) The death of Murphy makes me uncomfortable, and I think what does it more uncomfortable is that they tease him while shooting him, that's pretty sick. They should do psychological tests with people watching that scene, if they laugh they are pretty sick images/icons/smile.gif
Max Payne however is quite soft, I feel they did that beginning pretty well though, the bathroom view and so on, not really showing what happened, but it gave you a feel...

I think this 'scared' guy really shouldn't touch Postal 2 when that comes out. images/icons/tongue.gif
Then again, I was playing Mortal Kombat 2 in the age of 8 and didn't find it scary. When someone did a fatality it was 'damn cool'. I wonder why that was. Maybe I'm a sick person.

And if he doesn't want to get scared, stay the hell away from Silent Hill images/icons/grin.gif That game is disturbing

I'm watching aliens right now on WMP for the first time images/icons/rolleyes.gif I believe it's because I loved to read more than TV and imagine everything myself in my childhood. And love for films, games, etc. I got when I bought comp.
I really cant understand what's scaring in MP. It's not that bloody, but disturbing by its events (like the beginning and ending as well). I think Scared just doesnt need to think about it and play straight away.
Silent Hill is the only game that scares me.

Scared, if you don't feel like playing the game, perhaps you shouldn't. After all, the game is rated "M" which is 18 years in most countries (so the game is off limits for you unless it's parental locked).
Do you feel compelled to play the game? Do you want to play it despite it scares you? I certainly hope you're not playing it because someone is pushing you to do so.

And by the way, you were scared of Oni? I never really found anything remotely scary about that game. I suppose the purple spiked hair of the main character can be considered to be scary?

I agree with biXen.. I used to play Silent Hill every night alone in the darkness of my bedroom, it was the scariest thing I've ever been through.. not only for the blood and gore but for the extremely disturing story...
but then I started having nightmares, so I decided only to play at day..

Well max payne doesnt scare me.. The nightmare level was a bit scary but... The katana mod is a little bit scary... I cant hardly play the Resident evils.. And I played silent hill1 but I stay away from silent hill 2.... But I see your point..
EDIT: The crack heads can be a bit freaky... and yes that mod that he put the link up for looks scary, i'm gonna download it though.... I remember back with Kingpin playing a haunted house map that was prettyg scary.. Yes
EDIT2: Yeah I keep thinking of more... Yeah silent hill 1 was definetly scary.. The little unexpected baby demons and nothing to fight with... it was quite freaky... and Oni now that game was cool nothing scary about it... But nevertheless your not a wimp.. certain things scare me too..

I think the most scary thing in MP is when he dreams!!! What do you guys think???

Yeah, i agree the dreams (nightmares) are the worst!!!!!!!!! I felt cold and thin as death when I faced the first one. images/icons/shocked.gif

^^I agree with you on that one,the dreams are the freakiest parts of the game.
Scared, all I tell you is play more games which scare you and sooner or later you get over.Of course my opinion might not mean much since I've been watching horror movies and playing bloody games since I was 6.I am one sick puppie and I love it. images/icons/grin.gif

Obviously, the scene might have been gruesome and maybe even unsettling when you first saw it, but as I watched Robocop a year or so ago for the umpteenth time, I couldn't help but laugh.
It's kind of like what happened with John Lithgow (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Lithgow,+John). Just try and take his roles as the villain of a movie seriously after you've seen him in 3rd Rock From the Sun. images/icons/grin.gif

I would suggest put off Adult mode then play it or if there is one, use a cheat to skip the first level.

its called psychological conditioning. video games are all a plot of the military to reduce us to cannibalistic midnless attack drones. the first step is to eliminate the natural instinct against killing one's own species. (look up www.killology.com, (http://www.killology.com,) this has actually been done in training. in wwii most soldiers did not fire their weapons directly at enemy troops)
