Sniper Rifle & Part 3, Ch. 8

I am having a problem getting the 2nd cable to break at the very end. I have tried using the sniper rifle, but it's still very far away. Is there any way to zoom in and out with the sniper rifle? I press X and the scope comes up, but I can't get it to zoom in more. On the picture in the walkthrough you can actually see the joint, but without zooming in I can't see crap! Any suggestions?

You need to hold the button in order to zoom in. Don't depress the button when you've passed on zoom mode or else nothing will happen.

Hold the button down and you will zoom all the way.
