I wonder who made the still shot things that are like a cartoon in MP, has he/she a site with more stuff, I think they are great! The light vs shadow on the faces are truly amazing, work of a true artist I say! What techniq/technology was used to create em? Did you use real drawings and enhanced them in some sort of program?

They aren't drawings. They're screenshots of the game and photos of real people, pasted together and edited with a Photoshop filter

i guess

They were made by Kiia Kallio and Sami Saramäki who were both working part-time for Remedy.

The process was a combination of photographs, hand painting, a complex Photoshop filter arrangement (Kiia programmed several new filters with Filter Factory) and screenshot backdrops.

Cool, programming own filters, never heard of it before! Im going to study the stuff in MP to learn more about light and shadows in faces, I love to paint with oil and I can learn alot from it, and it is also my kind of style with heavily marked contrast!

BTW, just played MP again, the graphics is amazing in that game, but you should have used more different grafitti photos, and it would had been cool to see some finnish grafs in it, cause finland is the second best country in the at it, sweden is in the no. one spot of course images/icons/wink.gif

The lights and shadows on the faces aren't drawn - they came straight from the photographs.

Believe or not, but some of the graffitis in the game actually are Finnish, taken from a book about Helsinki graffitis (with permission, of course).

BTW, if you want to study light and shadows on faces, get Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Light and Shade. It is the book about shading in illustrations, including a wide seletion of facial shadow casting examples. Alas, the book is currently out of print, at least according to Amazon.com.

On a similar note, is there any possibility of we the modders getting our hands on Remedy's Photoshop filters to recreate our own 'Payne-style images?
