I take it that since Max Payne 2 will be bigger than the first one and will likely be too big to fit one CD, will it come out on 2 CDs or 1 DVD?

i remember seeing a thread in the gaming forum about Metal Gear being on DVD.
I currently dont have a DVD drive, but will definitely shell out the gold for one if a game ( like MP2) comes out on DVD.

Nobody releases a PC game on DVD, they can't since DVD isn't standard like it is on consoles. Besides, it's not expensive to produce two cds, and I can't see a reason why it should be bigger in size than Max Payne either... Well, they might use bigger res. textures and stuff, but I dunno... possibly two cds...

If the game was only on two CDs, I'd hardly see the need to release it on DVD. There'd be too much free wasted space on the DVD unless the game's really, really, really big.
Games comes now on 3 CDs or more, yet people demand that games comes on DVD just so installation is easier. Do people really can't switch the CDs 2 times in a installation? Hell, I've installed Windows 95 on floppies in the older days. It took almost 2 hours to install and there was a shitload of disks lying around in a mess. images/icons/smile.gif
As for CD swapping reasons, most smart game developpers make sure that the game installs from several CDs, yet all run with a single play disc, so there's no problem with this issue neither.

With games like UT2K3 and Splinter Cell shipping on 3 cd's, it's obvious that using DVD's isn't a high priority.

besides you can cram like 8gigs on a DVD-Rom... so 3cd games would be like 2.1GB that would be like wasting 5.9 gB and DVDs are really expensive.

Unlike CD, there appears to be at least two format capacities. If you're talking about DVD-5 which is 4.7 GB and is the format for recordable DVD, then I hate to say you're mistaken. However, if you are referring to DVD-9, then you're right about cramming in 8.5 GB since it's dual layered.
By the way, I understand that very few software titles come out on DVD even to this date but would it be possible for 3drealms and Remedy to make this game stretch out to 8 GB so that it is incredibly better than even the first Max Payne?

Even DVD-5 would equate to not less than 6 CD's, so even a game like UT2K3 would waste half a DVD.

4,7GB is big enough for all games out so far me thinks, and I don't think making DVD's is that much more expensive than CD's, but it's probably enough to not bother + as I said they can't release it on DVD since it's not a standard on PC's, maybe 20% of people at least don't have a DVD-ROM. I have both a burner and a DVD-ROM though so I don't care images/icons/smile.gif I pay $3 for my DVD-R or DVD+R's, so it's not really expensive (considering it's probably a lot cheaper for those making millions of them), but it's still a needless cost compared to cd's + it ain't gonna happen, simple as that images/icons/smile.gif I guess two cds for Max Payne, at most 3, but I doubt that.

They're still not the dominant format. While I can't speak for sure, because Take 2 controls things, I'd be surprised if it's on DVD.
Making it on both DVD & CD would require extra manufacturing costs - they'd want to keep it on one platform, and I still see that being CD's. It's still by FAR the widest distribution media.
