Hi all... this will take a bit of explaining, so please bear with me.

All we're shown about Alfred Woden in the Max Payne game is that he's an elderly gent with an eyepatch over one eye, who gets shot up by the suits but then mysteriously gets up and walks away...

Have any of you guys read a book by Douglas Adams called "The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul?" The book follows the adventures of a detective character named Dirk Gently. The interesting thing is that the book also involves Valhalla and the old Norse Gods... in the book, there's an elderly one-eyed gentleman who goes by a few names. Some people know him as Mr. Woden, while others call him Mr. Odwin. Some know him as Mr. Odin... but his fellow Gods know him as Odin, father of the Gods.

Anyone else made this connection?

there had been talk before of who woden was (either on here or on one of the other max payne forums, ala maxpaynecenter.com) but no one has said what you are now saying before, at least not to my knowledge.
its very interesting indeed what you found, but
the thing is, you say it also involves norse mythos and such, when odin is a norse god, and woden is another name for him. the only connection that you really prove is that woden may or may not play the role of a god in max payne, since he doesnt die when he gets shot AND he sort of saves max payne in the end as a bit of mercy.

Ah... you're saying that Woden is another name for the Norse God Oden anyhow? That kinda simplifies it, I guess... I didn't know that.

I noticed another detail. When Alfred Woden invites you to meet him in the game, he says "Come to the Asgard building." And Asgard is the home of the Norse Gods, more or less... I think Valhalla was supposed to be the chief city of Asgard, or something like that? They're both related to the mythos, anyhow.

So... it could be that "Alfred Woden" is just an alias that the guy uses rather than his real name, in keeping with the whole "Valhalla" them of the government project. Which doesn't explain him shrugging off his own death, of course...

bullet-proof vest maybe...

bullet proof vest? I think not! Woden is tuff as nails. He shrugs off bullets like they were nothing images/icons/grin.gif

That is a good book.
BTW, no one was saying that woden is another name for Odin.
You got a bit confused by Quiddity I guess.
Anyways, maybe they are fans of Douglas Adams and made that character as a sign of respect towards him (since he recently died).
