Here's the content of the email I got (from Ryan Gordon) telling me about this Linux port. I didn't want to post the email until I heard from the guy, and he said it was OK.

Originally posted by Ryan C. Gordon:

Well, that didn't take long.

We've got ROTT running on Linux. Still have some stuff to work out (hey, we've only been working on this for 24 hours!), but I could walk around the first map, hit people with rockets and get some ludicrous gibs. images/icons/smile.gif

Screenshots (big desktop, tiny 320x200 window) are at:

http://icculus.org/rott/

Source changes are in CVS at icculus.org.

The primary culprits on this port are Steven Fuller and Dan Olson, with a little help from me.

The video and input has been moved to Simple Directmedia Layer (SDL), which means that it should work on win32 with a little bit of tinkering.

I read a message that said if someone could do this for ROTT, it would be icculus.org, and they were right. Some good hacking! Both text mode and graphics modes are working, from looking at the screenshots. icculus.org solved the problem of the Watcom assembly code and access to video and input, so that's a good start for anyone interesting in porting.

All the code is available for viewing directly here: http://cvs.icculus.org/horde/chora/cvs.php/rott?rt=rott

Thank you very much for releasing the source code.

Very impressive, i really never expected such thing from 3drealms.
It's great being able to play ROTT now under Linux and other OSs. images/icons/smile.gif
