I have been getting tons of e-mails from people saying "We should use the Jdoom engine" or something similar.

Allthough this might speed up devlopment time, I dont have ANY experience with these engines(besides I have played it).

Just wanted to know what your opions where.

If we do decide to use one of these engines....does anyone here know these engines in any way? Would anyone be willing to help the project by re working the engine to fit Rott?

Just Wondering...

I haven't played ROTT in a while, so I'm unsure if the game already has some of these things:

Core:
LOOK UP AND DOWN (FREELOOK MOUSe): Mouselook toggle, Mouselook sensitivity, Invert mouse for mouselook
32 PLAYERS: Multiplayer COMM-BAT!
CONSOLE + KEY BINDINGS: For advanced commands
MULTIPLAYER MENU: change things like characters / name
SPLIT-SCREEN MODE: two players on one system
DEATHMATCH RANKINGS: to see scores in game
ROTT SERVERS: join a game which is already started.
CROSSHAIR: Choose between a cross, an angle, or a point.
Enhanced weapon switching : player chooses its preferred weapon order. Doesn't switch weapon when picking up/walking over a weapon when you don't want to use it directly.
Death messages
TCP/IP Internet play
Support all extended VESA2 linear frame buffer modes.Full support SVGA : can switch to any VESA2 mode with the good aspect ratio, can switch video mode in the menu, save video mode in default config

Graphical:
VIDEO OPTIONS MENU: Change res. in game
ROCKET TRAILS
3DFX / OPENGL

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I downloaded the demo to see what the game was like, and I can tell you that ROTT has a free look mouse feature. There is no toggle function however, you have to hold down a key to look around with the mouse. Also you can't move foward or back when you're in mouse look, instead pressing the up and down arrow keys will make you look up and and down, but you still can strafe. I don't think there is a invert mouse feature either.

JDoom is by far the best engine to use for the older DooM engine games (that has been released to this point anyway). The latest version of Doomsday (the core) was phnominal, were talking Win32 option screen with features out the wazoo. Support for detail texturing, complete corona/fog emulation customization, flawless .MD2 model support (although personally if I were you I would go the extra mile and add .MDL) with support for hi-res skins, and from what I have heard its fairly easy to work with. If I were you I would email Skyjake and ask him for permission/help. But yeah JDoom 0wnz.

P.S. - I was hoping that any who were interested in building a port of ROTT would all work together instead of against. One 1337 project beats the hell out of many basic ones images/icons/smile.gif (Plus let King do your MP support images/icons/wink.gif )If you agree and work hard at this just maybe 3DR would be kind enough to host the website here at ROTT HQ. But then again it would have to be worthy of the triads images/icons/grin.gif

If you wish to work on the team then just contact IceColdDuke and tell him what you can help with.

Once the site is up and running I will set up all staff with news accounts and download manager accounts (to upload builds/files etc..).

I think a better choice (or at least to start off with) would be NewWolf <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">ROTT is more like Doom then Wolfenstien 3d. It would take more programming to get it to work under NewWolf. images/icons/frown.gif

You would have to program in the Z-Axis, have it so the levels are not set to a certain height..etc.

The files will be hosted on sourceforge.net, but not the website...again talk to ADoomedMarine images/icons/smile.gif

I thought it was going to be hosted on sourceforge.net: http://glrott.sourceforge.net images/icons/confused.gif

The DoomsDay engine is nice and all, but it would be tough to implement since ROTT is more of a Wolf3D engine, than a Doom engine.

I think a better choice (or at least to start off with) would be NewWolf (http://wolfgl.narod.ru/index.htm). This Wolf3D port has a rewritten raytracing engine in OpenGL, supports multiple resolutions, polygon models, sound, etc. Since ROTT was an extention of Wolf3D, I think it would be much more realistic to make GLROTT an extention of NewWolf.
